A person who walks alone is likely to find themself in places no one (he knows) has ever been before.”

perfect day for the beach, perfect weather! 80's and sunny! when i got to br's (without sufficient food for more than one cat) guess who turned up? the missing tiger cat in addition to the black cat! wow! very thin too. what is up with that? someone bringing it in and not feeding it? trapping it and leaving it elsewhere and somehow it got back? really glad br will be home soon. yay! he feeds them way more than i do, to the point of them getting fat. like too much moist food.
stopped there after the garden club shin dig, because it was nearby even though i didn't plan on lots of time down there. the shin dig was beautifully done. every time i go to an "ice cream social" i always think of the one in anne of green gables, which was outdoors and the first time anne tasted ice cream (which was a "new invention" in 1907).
went to the shin dig with a. it was in the community club house on the water, held indoors. they sold raffle tickets for $1 each, for a chance to win any of five $200 baskets with stuff in them (white elephant), similar to a chinese auction (i love chinese auctions as long as there are a zillion prizes to choose from because its very easy to win the ones that no one else is aiming for. generally all people put their tickets in for the big prizes like tv's or a car or a 50/50. but don't put tickets in for the smaller prizes like a crystal ash tray, which will become an easy win. as a kid ("younger person" lol.), i used to just look for easy wins, near the end before they collect all tickets. the bowls of tickets that looked pretty empty, is where i put my tickets, even if the prize for that bowl was something really small or silly (like a tool belt). it was fun to win. nowadays, i don't stay as long so, i don't win as often. and i have too much stuff. i used to feel bad for the "prizes," if no one put a ticket into that one and left it out. lol.
the only prize that looked good this time was the day of beauty, gift certs for facial, mani-pedi, massage, restaurant, bottle of wine etc. a raffle for a door prize is included with the ticket. they serve vanilla ice cream with all the toppings, and a variety of home made cake to choose from with the ice cream and soft drinks like lemonade and iced tea (all included with the entry ticket). I saved the pale pink plastic spoon, it has a white bow and a small yellow flower applique glued onto the handle. very nice.
the garden club members bake the cakes in the kitchen next to the community room and then they also sell entire cakes, cookies and quiche that members baked at home and brought in. the prices are really low, like $5.
i bought a quiche. they also had pineapple upsidedown and a few other elaborate cakes that would be $20 in a bakery, totally worth it.
nicely organized, each basket had a typed list of what was inside the huge cellophane wrapped basket, taped to a bright colored small plastic waste basket in front of it. the basket is used to hold the tickets for that prize. the colors were gorgeous for waste baskets, like bright yellow, blue, red (wonder where they bought those). they also included details like "tag is still on the t-shirt so the item can be returned for correct size" very smart, whoever runs this. and lots of "save the turtles" things all over the place. turtle season is a big thing here.
that was the big part of the day. at the marina, there are one or two boats and a couple of smaller ones with people fishing. its still not at all what it used to be over there. wonder if once the economy is normal again and the marina gets crowded, will i miss the quiet.
i'm sleepy today because the melodramas from my office are affecting my sleep. so now i know what "don't lose sleep over it" means. don't think things bothered me as much long ago, or i viewed most things as not my problem. can't say that now, because now i'm in charge (there are reasons why its easier to not take management jobs, but if you have a bad boss, that's worse).
i did tell one of the guys that i want to check out another office that tried to recruit me in the past because the aggravation from the new area manager (he's been with our company 3 1/2 weeks and all this crap! is getting to me. i also want our raise and we never get it (seven years now), and the other place pays more. my employee went pale, he's the second one to do that. it took him 3 years to get into our office and then he was around back when the tyrant supervisor was still here for another 3 years. we also have a foreign guy here, from russia, who's english isn't that good (his work is fine though), who was out of work a long time before i hired him, and i've been giving him longer hours and more to do and i know he is thrilled about that. before this he had been promised a wrestling coach job at the highschool that never materialized because all the teachers and coaches were cut back. makes you feel responsible because if i leave the next person in charge may just fire them or be an asshole like the former supervisor was -- however, the two supervisors before him were really nice, you never know what you are getting.

i think the ice cream socials are one of the few gardening events that attract men. they also had a clown and a cat costumed people walking around and a face painter for children.
Sounds like some good wholesome fun! Sounds like you needed a nice balanced \"take it easy day\". Now, you need to get a good nights sleep, god willing, and start again tomorrow a bit revived. You had quite a week!
love and laughter, xxxooo
Love your quote by Albert E. It\'s so true!
So happy the cat are back!! Although thinner. Still, they\'re home and safe.
Sounds like the ice cream social and the raffle and all was great fun. It\'s the kind of thing I would enjoy! The times I get homesick for Florida are when I see words like \"marina\"......I can just feel the air and smell the smell...and whoooop, I\'m back in Hollywood, Fla. Or Ft. Lauderdale about to get on a boat with my friends and go out fishing for the day! Seriously, my twenties in Florida are part of my life\'s greatest memories!!!!
Although I know you feel responsible for your workers, you have to do what is best for you. If you drop dead from the stress, they will get a new boss, anyway! The shindig sounds like fun! I hope you are having a good day at work today, and got some good sleep last night! *HUGS*
The Shindig sounds like my kind of fun. So easy going and fun with raffles etc.
Sorry to hear about those continual problems at work. Being a supervisor is
not as much fun because you never get fully paid for all the added stress.
Hang in there. Huggles
i won a doorprize. didn\'t pick it up yet. also won a thing from kia, didn\'t pick that up yet either. i\'m sure they are small. i love it when i have lucky streaks. happens every year (but so does the unlucky ones, usually in august for that, then i hide until it feels safe. lol.)
our new area supervisor called to let me know he has a person i can interview to take the place of one of the bad ones. lets see how it will go next. if we didn\'t get so many new area managers (i think we have had 20 or more of those in the time i have been here! it would make things easier. its like when you train new people, and then they are gone a month or two later and you train another new person....with some of these area guys, it feels like that because they are awkwardly learning the accounts and then gone a month or two later....then finally one that stays two years max and then a few more for a month or two each. its hell. if the person is new, just go with the flow for a year or so until you have it. don\'t DO anything, you know. why drive everyone else crazy when you probably won\'t last anyway?
