Fun things to do in Taitung
Taimali Beach, which is comparable the most scenic beaches in Hawaii, stretches out a few kilometers and is shaded by the lazy shadows of coconut trees. Tens of thousands of people flocked into Taimali Beach to ring in the millennium and greet the first daylight of the 21st century. This golden country, the home of sunrise, has the refreshing charm of a brand new day.
You’ll also find two reproductions of historical houses belonging to the Neolithic Beinan people and some information about their daily life. Wulai was once very popular for its makeshift riverside hot springs, but they’ve become so worn down, and sometimes have no hot water left, that they are no longer worth visiting. The hot spring spas in town have also seen better days, but we still like the ones on Wenquan Road, across the busy pedestrian bridge and to the left.
Only the aboriginal performances at night have been performed for many years, and the content is not brilliant enough, and it seems monotonous and boring. Zhiben is divided into the inner hot spring area and the outer hot spring area by the Zhiben Creek. However, due to presence of five-star resorts, the area has become the largest business district. It attracts many foreign tourists who demand services of higher quality. That said, you will not find many big international hotel brands here.
Further up the same road, Jin Ping Spring Resort is another spot we’ve enjoyed. The same road has numerous guesthouses and some excellent campgrounds that we love (like 香杉露營區, which has a pool in summer, cherry blossoms in spring, and lots of bunnies!). This whole area is one of our favorite getaways from Taipei and we take our kids there often. As you’ll notice from the above picture, my father learned from the locals there that the hot spring’s mud is good for the skin.
Together with the milky white calcium carbonated spring water, it makes for a very special experience. Maling hot spring is located in Dajiaxi, Heping District, Taichung, which just lies upstream of Guguan hot spring. The quality of the spring is a carbonated spring, and the temperature ranges from about 40 to 71℃. The location of this hot spring and the conditions in the mountains is different every year, so remember to do your homework before departure. The spring stretches for about 30m and the water temperature is about 45 to 65℃ and belongs to the weakly alkaline sodium bicarbonate spring. This is a weak alkali carbonated spring and during the off-season, the spring water only reaches the ankle. However, there's a unique hot spring waterfall where the Sanguang Creek meets the hot spring.
Dashibishan is a series of wooden stairs out on a cape looking out over Jici beach. Fengbin Skywalk with a terrying coastal walk with some sections with glass floors. Unfortunately, both of these walkways are marked as closed at the time I write this. This very easy 15.2 kilometer path takes in the bucolic scenery that you’ve come for and features the aisle of betel palms, a section flanked by areca palms on either side of the path. While Chishang is trendier among young people these days, some Taiwanese families or older people still prefer Guanshan.
Somehow, I forgot to get the London refrigerator magnet as souvenir. I chose London B because I visited the London Eye, rode on the double-decker bus, and went on one of the sightseeing cruises of Thames River. Being outdoors, it's always best to stay prepared and keep alert, especially in unfamiliar terrain and waters.
