Frustrated by this illness!!

Woke up this morning with a killer headache but since I had already told my mother that I would be at her candle party (Partylite), I went ahead and went. Once there she gave me some of the migraine meds (we take the same one) and pain meds that she had. Made my poor aching body thank me! Still felt pretty sick from the stupid headache but my joints felt better. Makes my determination all the more stronger that I get to my GP and try to get a script for pain meds. Hope she can give me something that helps. Not sure though, since I don't know her very well. Maybe if I explain how I can't even barely make it through a three hour shift at work anymore will help. The cymbalta and gabapentin help some but not enough! So frustrated!

Pain is invisible so if you can explian it in words that don\'t make you sound like you\'re a junky she may help you. Tell her what you\'ve tried, your pain level on a scale of 1-10 and ask her for her suggestions for pain relief. I sure hope you get something that works for you.Good luck

I have something you can take to your doctor: http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/02/boyfriend-doesnt-have-ebola-probably.html

And even if you don\'t take it to your doc, it will at least give you a laugh!

Getting pain meds from doctors is TOUGH sometimes. Some docs will give you whatever just to shut you up, and other are always on the lookout for drug seekers. Be sure to describe your pain in as much detail as you can. When it happens, the type of pain (stabbing, shooting, aching, burning, etc), how long it lasts, and if anything affects it (like stretching, heating pads, OTC meds, resting, etc). For example, my arthritis pain in my back is usually an ache, but can feel like a spasm when it\'s bad. It spreads into my hip, and if I don\'t rest when it hits, it can shoot down the front of my legs. A heating pad distracts me from the pain, but doesn\'t really help much long term. An ice pack seems to help more than heat. I need a medicine that will enable me to get through an entire grocery shopping trip pushing the heavy shopping cart by myself. This description tells my doctor that I don\'t want something that will make me sleepy, because I have to use it when I\'m driving and walking around. Since the ice helps more than the heat, (and since it\'s arthritis pain) he\'ll give me an anti-inflammatory. On the other hand, if I tell him I have burning or shooting pains that keep me awake at night and don\'t respond to anything, then he might give me something that will make me sleepy in addition to helping pain.

Also keep in mind that the reason narcotics are not suggested for Fibromites is because they work too well. It\'s so very easy to get hooked, which actually causes you more pain in the long run.

Good Luck talking to your doc. Hopefully she\'ll find something to help you! *HUGS*
