Frustrated, Again

I had emailed David's brother's Adoptive parents over 3 weeks ago.  I requested a day/time to get the kids together.  (Quick background:  David's brother's Amom contacted ME last fall, which was a total shock, as we did not even know David had a little brother, let alone being adopted as well.  We exchanged information and photos.  I was trying to help her through some questions and issues and then we lost touch.  She had previously mentioned that she got her son together with their sister, also now adopted by a different family.  I had asked then to get together and then never heard from them.  She just wanted to get together with me?)  Anyway, she says that they do not want to have contact.  Want to wait until their son is older.  I am so hurt and so frustrated.  I know David really got his hopes up and I am going to have to tell him later.  My husband is so upset with me and says I made a huge mistake by telling David.  I know he will be hurt and disappointed, but I just felt to lie to him would have been worse.  Then I emailed back and 1)  asked if they got letter & card and photos David sent?  Would they keep them for when they feel their son is old enough?  2)  Can David send a letter from time to time and they keep them for later?  3)  Can she send me an occassional email and update so I can reassure my son that his brother is OK?  She says this is in her son's best interest.  I don't agree, but he is not my son.  But I just truly believe that it is in MY son's best interest to have a relationship with his brother and sister.  I really and truly believe that he would be a GREAT big brother.  So to say that I am disappointed is putting it mildly.  Again, SHE CONTACTED ME!  I am angry but I have to watch what I say.  She could cut us/my son off forever!   I ate well yesterday.  Did some exercise- 15 min bender ball core exercises and 17 minutes on Wii Fit.  Did not get out to walk the dog.  Wind chill was so bad I could not breathe just taking the dog out to do her thing.  Going to a new class tonight- Aspire, at the YMCA.  It is about Mind, body and soul training and weight loss.  $40 for 7 weeks (additional to my regular Y membership, but I get a personal trainer during this time.  It is 1 1/2 hrs I think.)  Teaches us how to eat better, exercise better and also think positively, etc.  I will let you guys know what I learn and how it's going.  Lord knows, I could really use some positive thinking right now.   March 20 is the first day of Spring and my 16th wedding anniversary.  I am determined to hit 20 lbs by that day.  I have not been at 146 in over 7 years.  So this is it.  Buckle down time. David was in a karate tournament on Saturday.  Bear in mind only 4 kids in his age group competing at the black belt level.  But he got 1st place in weapons (he did a bong form.  The bong is the long pole.)  He got 2nd place in forms (a routine without weapons.)  He got 3rd place in sparring.  Sparring was pretty scary as he was fighting kids twice his size.  His bong form was awesome.  Best I ever saw him do.  He got a little upset at the end and said his leg hurt and refused to do his Haidong Gumdo demonstration, which is Korean sword martial arts.  I think he regretted it later.  We went out afterwards with a bunch of kids and parents to Friendlys.  Yes, had cheeseburger, fries and the ice cream sundae.  As I said, I am back on track yesterday and today.  I actually gained 2 1/2 lbs back over the last couple of weeks.  I really fell hard off the wagon and just binged.   Everything this weekend was pretty good with David.  Woke up this AM and found David in bed with Zune (MP3 player, like an Ipod only it is Microsoft and not Apple.)  He was up all night watching SpongeBob Squarepants.  Just when he is about to get his Nintendo DS back after a month for the same reason (playing all night in bed), he gets his Zune taken away.  Paul just freaked which made for a very loud and bad morning.  Also I am very sore today for some reason.  Perhaps from the bender ball?  Oh well.  Keep going.   Thank you to my friends here.  Without you guys I would truly be alone I feel.  I really have been feeling blue.  So it helps to come here.

How very frustrating! I\'m frustrated right along with you as I read this! I feel you are so right; this is the last of David\'s roots. This small thing could make ALL of them seem more secure with their forever families. There is a huge amount of trust, and committment that is shared when you try so hard to keep those special things alive. The kids are all very aware of this. I\'m so sorry that his brother\' Amom is being this way.

While I agree somewhat with htag, you have to understand what this other family is going through. If you are having problems with David, what problems might they be going through? Maybe just meeting with the adults where you both can share and sort out what to do. When you write about David not wanting to do his Haidong Gumdo demonstration it reminds me so much of my youngest daughter. Everything was a drama! She turned out to be the best of the nest! So keep the faith!
