FRUSTRATED!!!!!!

I KNOW I SHOULD BE HAPPY, RELIEVED, REJOICING, BUT I'M NOT. T JUST CAME HOME FROM SCHOOL - FINALLY WAS GETTING INTO A ROUTINE - THINKING HE'D BE ABLE TO GO TO SCHOOL UNTIL MARCH AND EARN A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA WITH HIS SCHOOL'S NAME ON IT AND........THEN HE HANDS ME HIS FINAL ASSIGNMENT DUE ON OCTOBER 30TH AND THEN HE'LL BE DONE!  WHAT? GUESS THERE WAS SOME KIND OF MIX UP CALCULATING HIS TOTAL CREDIT HOURS.  WE WERE TOLD, INITIALLY, THAT HE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO EARN THE SCHOOL NAME DIPLOMA, ONLY THE ON-LINE SCHOOL DIPLOMA.  WE KNEW THAT OUR SCHOOL REQUIRES 8 MORE CREDITS THAN OTHER SCHOOL SYSTEMS AROUND HERE.  OUR PUBLIC SCHOOL IS MORE LIKE A PRIVATE PREP SCHOOL AND, OF COURSE, HAS HIGHER STANDARDS THAN MANY OF THE SCHOOLS AROUND HERE.  WELL, WE ACCEPTED THAT AND THOUGHT - OKAY - AT LEAST HE'LL BE EARNING A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA, EVEN THOUGH THE NAME OF HIS SCHOOL WON'T BE ON IT.  BUT THEN THE DIRECTOR OF THE ON-LINE SCHOOL TELLS MY SON IF HE ATTENDS SCHOOL UNTIL MARCH, INSTEAD OF JANUARY, HE'LL BE ABLE TO HAVE HIS SCHOOL'S NAME ON IT. I WISH WHOEVER IT IS WHO KEPT GIVING US THE WRONG INFORMATION BETTER GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER. I PUT A CALL INTO THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AND HIS GUIDANCE  COUNSELOR.  NOT EVEN SURE WHAT I'M GOING TO SAY.  I KNOW I SHOULD BE "HAPPY" BUT JUST WHEN HE WAS STARTING TO DO SOMETHING .......WHAM

Hmmmm, bad day?! What do you have in writing?? Given that he has already expressed an \"attitude\" about school with ups and downs regarding attendance; an October deadline may be just in time......giving him a chance to see the light at the end of the tunnel and perhaps motivating him to get after the work?!! A GED now is a step forward especially in light of last spring. If the option is then open to get a regular diploma, then he could work on until March. If not, he still has an option in January to \"join\" with his friends at the local community college and get a couple of courses under his belt...demonstrating to any employer that he can get this done. Still, he has to take ownership of this....Take Care!!

No - he still will receive a high school diploma not a GED and he will receive it now NOT in January or March - just not one with his high school name on it. We were mistakenly told that if he went until March, his school name would be on it, if he earned the full 28 credits required by his hometown school. Although his behavior was shaky this week, he really wasn\'t feeling well this time - the teacher could see it and defended him. I wasn\'t feeling well, either, so I knew where he was coming from. My negative reaction and attitude to this latest incident was due to his continuous past behavior, and understandably so. But - for the FIRST TIME in years he really started to seem to try and engage in school. I received a good report from his teacher. The problem is, I believe ,he has missed way too much at his other school and passed other classes by the skin of his teeth. Forget the fact that he \"didn\'t get it\" - just move him along. This school will not allow him to advance until he masters 90% of whatever subject it is.

I wrote that journal entry right at the time I found out and had to vent. I know it\'s weird - I should be rejoicing. And I will. This latest news surprised me. Oh - he did say he wants to start at one of our college community schools in January. He also said that when he graduates he wants to definitely get a job.

This all works out in the end doesn\'t it? He\'s getting his diploma and wanting to attend community college is a great way to get started afterwards. Is he planning on a part-time job too? You have done a great job and it will continue to show as he progresses! This is really good news! hugs, d.

HS diploma, is a plus over a GED regardless of the \"name\". Most employers and schools don\'t care....Community college and/or average SAT scores will get him into most colleges; employers just have HR check to see that he has completed HS...I hope his interest in school continues!!!!

Passing by the skin of his teeth before...? Just goes to show how smart he really is because it doesn\'t sound like he applied himself. If in fact he did miss out on some items, community college offers good resources in terms of tutoring and such that he will catch up; after all, as you well know he is bright/capable.

Are you maybe reacting to the \"what next\" for him? How will he be using his time while you are out...? At least now, somebody else is responsible for him....?

Take Care!!!

Okay so I\'m confused or maybe you are to.LOL So do you know what he will be getting as far as diploma, school name, ged...come October 30th? Talk about giving you notice. I totally understand your frustration. It\'s hard to plan for things when you don\'t know about them. But overall as long as he gets his diploma that\'s what\'s important.
