Friends Funeral

I done my friend's funeral today.  I have known him I guess over 50 years.  I knew his whole family, brothers, sisters, mom, etc.  I also knew his wife's family.  I worked with her brother and ran around with some of them too.  His health had declined for the past 10 years.  The past 2 years, he could hardly get out of the house.  He had lung cancer surgery in 1999, and heart surgery last year.  He got a terrible lung infection and he just could not recover from it.  I thank God he was a Christian and he is not sick or suffering any more.
One lady shook hands with me as they were paying their last respects and she said she'd just about move back to where I live, just to hear me preach.
When a family asks me to do a funeral, I consider it an honor and a privilege to do the service for them.  Here in the little town where I live, there are 7 churches and all the Pastors are "ship in"s.  They came here from other states, etc.  I am the only "local boy preacher".  I had been gone 35 years and moved back her in 2007.  God has blessed me by using me to be a blessing to others.  Each funeral I do, I try to make it personal to the loved one who has passed away.  I believe Larry would have been proud today.
