Clinic for Hematology, Clinical Center of Serbia, Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro Introduction:Burkitt lymphoma (BL) is a rare form of highly agressive Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The abdominal localization and extranodal involvement are typical for presentation of BL. The prognosis has significantly improved after the introduction of intensive multiagent chemotherapy regimens in combination with immunotherapy. Methods: The analysis was performed on 15 patients with diagnosed Burkitt, Burkitt like, atypical Burkitt or B-cell lymphoma, unclassifiable with features intermediate between diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and Burkitt lymphoma. All the patients had gastrointestinal involvement in the form of localized disease or as the part of disseminated disease. The patients with localized disease were treated with 4 cycles of R-HyperCVAD if complete surgical resection was performed, otherwise the patients were treated with 8 cycles of R-HyperCVAD. The patients with completely resected abdominal disease were considered as low risk according to Murphy staging system for BL. According to Ann Arbor staging, the stages http://www.selleckchem.com/products/MK-2206.html I or II were considered as favorable. Results: The median follow up was 12 months (range 2-107 months). Five patients (33.3%) died, all within one year after diagnosis, 4 from disease progression and one in febrile neutropenia. The survival analysis indicated signifficantly better both overall survival (100% http://www.selleckchem.com/products/ABT-263.html vs 44%; log rank 4.892, p=0.027) and event free survival (100% vs 33.3%; log rank 6.245, p=0.012) in patients with low risk according to Murphy staging system. Based on Ann Arbor staging system there was no difference between low and high risk patients both in overall survival (80% vs 40%; log rank 3.234, p=0.072) and event free survival (70% vs 40%; log rank 2,121; p=0.145). Conclusion: Complete surgical resection of localised abdominal tumor still should be considered as the treatment option in patients with Burkitt lymphoma. In Burkitt lymphoma with abdominal localisation, the treatment decision could be based on Murphy staging system risk assessment. 396 HEPATITIS C-ASSOCIATED AGGRESSIVE NON-HODGKIN'S B-CELL LYMPHOMA(AL).
