forgot to mention
About a week or so ago ~ I looked outside and saw 3 police cars at a house directly across the street from us. I also saw the juvenile detective standing in their driveway. I've gotten to know him very well because of our son T. We're still in touch because he helps out with our parent drug program twice a year and has been very helpful. Thank God I had a compassionate "cop" to "work with" because I needed that to get through the crap. There were times, however, I wanted to scream and was becoming inpatient with the system and with him ~ thinking he wasn't moving fast enough. Our county is horrible when it comes to the court system. Extremely slow (compared to what I hear about other counties). We're one of the biggest in our state (could be the second) and now I know that most of it had to do with corruption. I remember going downtown to the juvenile court and asking to talk to "someone" ~ begging and crying to get my son's date moved up closer. It didn't help.
Anyway ~ I just saw another cop car go by right now. Last week the police cars were there because there is (was) a stalker ~ following high school girls as they walked in town. The family across the street has young kids and that day there was a teenage girl who looked to me like she was babysitting them. Obviously, she was the one who was followed to this house after walking over a mile to their home from school. I kind of gathered that that was what happened before the news hit ~ which was a week later!! Our son ~ T ~ who was still away at school at the time ~ knew about it the same time we did and wanted to know about the cop cars. His friend lives down the street from us. News travels faster around town than it does on the news. A friend of mine, who has 3 daughters, was angry that our mayor was keeping this a secret. He has an almost 11 year old daughter (who is rather tall) and let the mayor know that it was irresponsible for not letting the general public know.
Funny - the detective emailed me (before it hit the news) asking about getting together next month. He met a mom whose daughter is a heroin addict and wondered if she could give her story to the parents at our program and would like us all to meet. What? I told him God works in mysterious ways because I was hoping to find someone because there is no way I would be willing to give details about our son. Not in our town anyway....

Wow. Amazing that the news was not released. More corruption, like maybe they know who the stalker is and the nature of his or his parents\' connections? Trying not to be suspicious, but it is really odd that a general alarm was not raised in some way. Thank God for cell phones in situations like this.
You are getting some good \'hits\' here as far as encouragement, with a mom willing to talk, and a cop willing to expedite. That is great; so many parents don\'t want to talk, and just hope it will all blow over. And of course you don\'t have to sacrifice your own anonymity for the sake of your program; there really are folks out there who\'d like to share their message, like this mother, bless her. Getting folks talking is an important thing to do.
