Flu

Somewhere between "Balancing the Warrior 7" and "Honey Done", flu started rampaging through the urban homestead. The coughs and raspy gurgles through the phone lines have been piteously difficult to decipher. I seem to hear them, even through the text messages. Girl howdy, I feel irresponsibly cruel for not putting on my Doctor Mom cape and flying home to the patient bedsides. Even meaner than leaving a public health and safety hazard in the yard here? I'll get to it when I get to it, Honey.

Hubs took his flu to the Emergency Room yesterday. He was hearing the warnings which followed his near death experiences in 2014/15: Your heart will be the next organ to go. My mom-sense whispered that it was mostly the drama one can expect when a work-a-holic is sick enough to take a sick day, but I kept that suspicion to myself. I was hearing those warnings, too. Second opinions are good. I was greatly relieved when the ER staff confirmed my diagnosis.

Now to clear my mind and deal with the business of removing the contractor's handiwork and setting in legal safeguards to contain any future handiwork from him. Dare I hope I will be able to leave for that much needed family visit this week? Just hoping. . . It will be as it will be.

I cancelled two family visits because I believed the contractor's bullshit. The ache of missing them was the hardest part of the broken contractor promises. Flu happens and I typically trust adults to get themselves through it, but. . .

Crossed fingers appreciated, Nancy. I miss my family. . .

Addendum:
As I watch the sunrise outside the studio window and attempt to review my options for the day, my support dog is nagging me like a real bitch. Methinks she is saying I need to take a walk. Think I'll listen to my dog.

Arfie I totally sympathise, I am on week 4 and still not back to my normal food and exercise. I went walking with a friend the other day and had to stop to catch my breath!! I am a runner and haven't ran since the flu. There are 2 strains, influencia A (H3N2) is the really bad one that has taken a lot of lives. CDC says 4 thousand a week are dying of it. It is horrible and I have never been that sick. I did not get the vaccine, but it didn't matter as the vaccine missed this one. Influenzia B is just 3 sick days and back to normal, regular flu
I went 7 days without food, horrible vomiting and diahrea...not to mention coughing, aches and complete exhaustion. I did end up getting an antibiotic and that prevented pneumonia or sepsis.. Good luck and the hospital is the right choice, I should have done that too

Thank you for the reminder to keep my empathy up. Gots to admit that I am feeling shades of, "Of course you are sick now. Gots to one-up the wife on everything, doncha?" Think I've done pretty well at maintaining the compassion for his plight.

Reminding myself he didn't catch the flu for the sake of getting me back to the proper wife duties. Did he?
