FLORIDA BEAUTY OR A FAMILY CURSE AS EAGLES FLY

Florida the Sunshine State...we left home in Oct...went to Texas to visit my youngest son...then headed to Florida to try out being a snowbird...I have mixed feeling where I am today..I sit in my Motor Home in Orlando, where Ken lived for several years...Florida can be beautiful, but it can be Painful...we have heard many wrecks and deaths this week..Oh for those mom's my heart breaks...Orlando was a good time with Ken...after work weekends we ate out, talked, took the grandchildren to Parks...on one night I remember we came out from eating and there sitting were thes really large tires. Like truck shows..me and the grandkids crawled inside to get our picture taken..watching Ken look on with his big smile of happiness as his mom and his kids giggled and played..Good times in Florida quiet a few...but Florida has a dark side for me...we lived in Lake Wales first as I took care of my four boys, a husband with terminal cancer (Drs said) working and attending College.  We were here around three years not knowing still not knowing what the spraying of the Orage Trees could do to us. Daily the prop planes flew low over our heads as we watched the spray come down to product that wonderful Oranges we love..but what did it do to us....time went on.  The ex survived...left us stranded and broke no home..i had just had kidney surgery...not knowing he was flying back and forth to home to see a girlfriend...On my birthday, middle of night he calls to wish me a Happy Birthday...but I didn't get you anything. I say that's okay back to sleep for me...3 hours later the phone wakes me from my peaceful sleep...once again on the other end was my husband saying I want a divorce...March...moving forward Ken was getting married in Aug..we were preparing...Ex demanding the divorce or he would kill me...He comes back down in our Motor Home. Brings new girlfriend...I am told she will be in the wedding party...Aug 10 hearing in Bartow..Night before I go to where he is. I say You bring her to the courthouse I will walk away NO DIVORCE. Waiting along in the halls of the courthouse, seeing if he shows..I am happy he does not show for the hearing..it only takes a few minutes.  I walk slowly out and down the steps of the court house DIVORCE HAPPENED.  My mind says. 20 wasted years daring down these steps...
I pull myself together for the Rehersal next night...it was a story within itself...
Ken remained in Florida moving to Orlando where he worked for the State of Florida in water waste.  He loved his job...but he inhaled more chemicals....Chemicals can be the cause of his type of cancer...He loved the job...got many awards for his work...Taught School and took care of his family...yet the worst had not happened...not yet..I moved back to Indiana after the wedding...Ken continued to stay in Florida working daily with harsh chemicals.   A few years later he and his family move to Daytona.  He calls me and has decided that he is going to do God's will and become a minister....I am very proud of him...Now he is working for our church while getting his Degree for Ministry...still hard working...no ideal of more pain that seems Florida cursed our family....He is Ordained   Proud mommy...His dad comes long enough to say "Oh new girlfriend"  gotta go...I see Ken's eyes break, his heart break  an important time for Ken but Dad has to be with his 20 something...
Things change...Ken packs up family moves to Al to run our Church Campgrounds....So excited...so many plans he had...so much work to be done at the camp....Florida is behind him or maybe it has done its curse on him...Only time will tell that as they study his cancer...BLOOD CANCER attacking the bones....VERY LIKELY CAUSE CHEMICALS...and we did have the CHEMICALS he had more...But it's good the move.  It's a 200 acre Church camp  sorta like where the land we owned he grew up on..we go visit...Ken takes us excitedly on a tour of the grounds...all his hopes and dreams...how it would look  his excitement was overwhelming....walking amongst the beauty of the land..I say to Ken,  " Almost like coming home, isn't it"  with a big happy smile he is HAPPY.....
YET DID THE CURSE OF FLORIDA CAUSE MY SON'S DEATH..ONE OF THE WHY'S I will probably never know...
JAN WAS THE SLOW TIME  at the camp...we packed up went down to help paint whatever needed to be done...KEN was at home finally....
CANCER   how why what..operation...pain  28 MONTHS HE LIVED..HE WORKED MOST OF THEM EVEN AFTER HE LOST THE ABILITY TO FORM WORDS..
FLORIDA IS BEHIND HIM NOW...YET...DID IT GO WITH HIM..MANY HEARTACHES HAPPENED IN FLORIDA.
MOVED HERE FOR THE DADDYS HEALTH...HE SURVIVES...MY SON DIES...
FLORIDA THE SUNSHINE STATE....YET THE SUN SHINES ON ME AS I WRITE THIS...BUT SO MUCH PAIN HAPPENED...
NO HE DID NOT DIE IN FLORIDA...BUT THE WHOLE FAMILY WAS TORN APART....AND HIGHLY LIKELY LEAD TO HIS CANCER...
TODAY HE FLIES HIGH IN THE HEAVENS..SURROUNDED WITH EAGLES ABOUND...FLY HIGH AND BE HAPPY MY SON..AS I SAT HERE IN ORLANDO TRYING TO RECAPTURE THE GOOD TIMES....YOU ARE YOUR MOMMYS BABY AND I LOVE YOU FOREVER AND EVER...YOUR MOM...

It feels as if you are needing to remember and I understand the spin cycle of emotions that can come with that as well. I\'m hopeful that in the remembering there are some nuggets of healing too.

I know the sunshine helps me so very much and I hope that you are soaking in those rays when you can and feeling Ken close by.

Loving care dear Sandi and gentle care as you remember and ponder. Safe travels and BE well.

Sandi, I just read your journal and my heart just broke for you. Like you know I know all about cancer and the awful memories that we have with the suffering that our sons went thru. Hoping for you peace.....

Sometimes the feelings and memories can overwhelm us, the whys haunt us... We wish we could have changed the outcome, but we couldn\'t.

Sending hugs your way - those memories - some make us smile, some haunt us and some I wish I could forget. Having lost a daughter to Cancer who also worked with chemicals makes me wonder - what if? Standing by, feeling helpless as your child is enduring the CANCER.....those memories I would like to forget - I am so sorry !!
Enjoy the snowbird life - I hope it is a fit for you. Vicki

Oh Sandi. What heartbreak. I just don\'t understand people who can knowingly hurt another person.
I can understand your feelings about Florida. I think I will look at those lovely Florida oranges a little differently.
Love and tight hugs, M

I am sorry, you are hurting. The life of a snowbird always appealed to me, but when my husband died, those dreams died with him. I hope the life suits you...
