flooded and flooded again

Last Friday morning my wife woke me up.  A large part of the house was flooded.  The supply line to one of the toilets had broken off in the middle of the night and just run continuously.  The tile floors were easy to dry, the carpets were soaked thru.  I had a carpet cleaning company extract the water but they made it clear that much more was needed, like removing the soaking pads underneath and running fans and dehumidifiers.  The carpets could not be really dried before the pads were replaced.  Our insurance company was no help, in fact they warned me against filing a claim, saying we wouldn't get any money and our rates would go up.  So over the weekend we replaced the pads, rented a dehumidifier and a steam cleaner to continue to extract water, and as we went into the week it seemed that we had finally had it done.....except two bedrooms worth of furniture is in our living room.  Then I was walking in one of the rooms and squish, squish, squish.  I thought I had dried that carpet much better than that.  Turns out that 40 feet away from the original leak was a new leak, the main water line into the house.  We had to cut open some of our expensive woodwork, a custom-made window seat to tear the slab open with a rented jackhammer.  Under the house was more than a foot of water that we had to rent a pump and remove.  So the second leak was fixed and we dried it out again.  We're supposed to have a "4-point" inspection to switch to a better insurance company.  One of those points is plumbing, another is water under the house.  I don't think it's going to happen for us this year.  My daughter pointed out that at least we already had all the furniture out of the room that was hit in the second flood.
