Shanghai is located in eastern China and sits at the mouth of the Yangtze River. The city is also divided by the Huangpu River which Puxi to the west of the river and Pudong on the east. It was a foreign concession until 1946 but remains to be a premier residential and retail area in Shanghai. The area used to be a settlement for the French but later attracted various nationalities from British and American to Russian émigrés.
Until today, several buildings are still well preserved and because of this distinct character, has made the area a popular tourist destination. Xintiandi is another popular destination in Shanghai. It is said to be an affluent car-free shopping, eating and entertainment district in Shanghai. The area is home to many shopping malls, book stores, cafes and restaurants. Xintiandi’s nightlife is also very active all week with many dance places and loud music coming out of different establishments.
