A series of unilateral two-dimensional coordinate palatal landmarks (Fig. 4) were digitized from computed tomography scans with the crania oriented along the palatal plane (i.e., along a horizontal line through prosthion and staphylion). Next, multivariate shape differences were quantitatively assessed using principal components (PCs) analysis on the Procrustes scaled shape variables.
