First Visit

Day 2.  I slept through the night surrounded by stuffed animals and body pillow and my dog.  She curled up against my belly and didn't budge all night.  It was such a comfort.  Woke up at 6am this morning and I absolutely didn't know what to do with myself-usually have to hurry to get my husband up, take care of the dog, get coffee and tea going, and this morning it was weird.  After I fed our dog, got tea poured, I turned on the tv and it was just me.  The reality is setting in that I'm on my own for the next 20 months.  Fortunately, I'll have the funds to make sure that the rent is paid and the lights stay on....this month.
So this afternoon, I went to see my husband for 30 minutes-man, does it go by fast.  He looked good and after he told us that he is with other sex offenders and not in the general population, and that he's safe, I was much more relieved.  However, this man is going to be jumping out of his skin.  They only let them out 2x a day and he tries to get some exercise in.  He won't be able to work and he can't get anything to read or write.  I'll be able to bring his bible to him, but that's just about it.  He can only receive visitors 1 day a week and that's either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
My father in law has told me that hubby will change and he'll become harder and possibly mean.  I just hope that it's not to me.  What I do know is that I will miss all the little moments-the hugs, kisses, the daily text messages that he loves me.  This absence means that when we are reunited, I promise to never take those moments for granted-and especially him and our marriage for granted.  What I now know is that I absolutely relish the fact that he knows all my peccadillos and that I will cherish our relationship now and when he's released.
