first holidays alone

after 16 years together with my husband, he has decided that he doesn't love me anymore and has moved on.  He moved out in August and ever since then I feel like I can't move on.  I find myself depressed and sad and desperately trying to hold myself together on a daily basis.  For us August through December had many monumental dates of celebration and fond memories.  Our wedding anniversary, engagement anniversary, first date anniversary, his birthday, my birthday, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years etc.  As each "anniversary" approaches I find it harder and harder to make it through the day.   Just as I make it through one day....the next one is here before I know it.   I miss all off our silly and fun traditions, the thoughtful cards he would pick out for me, and gathering with friends and family to celebrate friendship and the holidays.  I find myself feeling empty and lost becuase for the first time in a long time, I don't get to participate in any of those traditions.  I don't know what to do with myself anymore and yet I feel as if being alone is the best thing for me at this time in my life.  I couldn't face my family and admit failure to them, so I opted to skip Christmas with them becuase I just couldn't look them in the eyes.  I'm in a very strange place in life right now.  I just turned 35 and feel like it's too late for me and it's too late to start over.  I'm really looking to just find friends and a new group of people to get to know,  but after being stuck in the same pattern and situation for so long...I feel as if I don't know what to do or say.  I don't want to become a shut in and let life pass me by; however, I feel aprehensive and will have trust issues for a while considering the situation I'm coming from.  Does anyone have any advice for me?  Everyone says "things will get better", but with my wounds being so fresh, I just don't see how that can be.
