First Day w/o Charlie....

we had to put our 14 year old doxie down yesterday. this has been our first day without him. i had already done a lot of grieving and the 4 days he was so so sick were very uncomfortable and difficult for him and us. we hated seeing him so sick.

they really do not know what was wrong w/ him. it might have been cancer... but he went downhill very very quickly.

i am now just concentrating on the 2 that we have left and going to enjoy them. I told Charlie "thank you" for all the wonderful moments he gave us and hopefully we gave him. I am determined to do more w/ the other 2 left bc they are both elderly... and they deserve some outings and us to still give them good times. Paco is almost blind but he still sort of enjoys walking... he stumbles some and falls off the curbs... but he does still seem to enjoy if we go slow.

Sophie is in hospice care and has lymphoma... but still active and happy. she still loves going in the car...  and playing ball...

but it's quieter w/o Charlie. Sweet sweet boy... our charlie is chasing and playing in doggy heaven.

Gentle condolences, Ginger.

The hardest part of loving animals is the fact that I live longer than they do. Letting go is rough. The first dog I had to put to sleep suffered for so long that the local mocking birds learned to imitate the cries of arthritis pain which plagued his last years of movement. The birds continued using his sounds for long enough to make me feel haunted.

But every dog who ever loved me visits me in my dreams. Those are happy dreams. I hope Charlie brings you a bone there tonight.
