First Day in LA
Today was pretty uneventful for my first day in LA. I slept like crap last night, so I napped multiple times during the day. I just feel groggy in general. I think it might be from all the dust here. My allergies are going off, like they always do when I'm at my stepfather's. I forgot about that, and I'm going to have to pick up some allergy pills while I'm here. The good news is I haven't spent any money since I got here. I have a limited budget, since they told me at first my Depo shot was going to be $40 and then they charged me $74 because they didn't include the office visit in the price quote. I'm scared to check my balance on my bank account. I know I still have some money left, but I have bills to pay too. I'm feeling stupid for thinking I had more money than I did. I did good with my snacks on the plane, though, and managed to not spend any money at the airport or on the way. So it's 2 days without spending any money. Tomorrow I'm going to spend some more time at the house, so hopefully it will be 3 days.
I went for my walk today. I walked slow, but that's because I was walking on hills. I'm so not used to these hills anymore. I went for a walk that followed part of a path that I used to walk, and boy was it hard! It was cool to see the changes that have been made, though. Not too many changes, though. I would have been upset if there was too many changes. Everyone likes to think of their childhood home as not changing. The house has changed on the inside... there are so many DVD's now, and my old room has become the office/ dump everything room. I'm sleeping in what used to be my mom and stepdad's room. They rearranged the room when my mom moved out, so I'm not sleeping in the same bed that they used to. I would think that would be gross.
It's been nice so far. I've gotten to spend some time with my stepdad, as well as my brother and sister. My sister wants me to come hang out with her on Saturday night at this “shindig” they are having on a local street where the art galleries stay open late and you can go look at them. It's going to be interesting going back to that neighborhood, since when I lived there it wasn't the best place to live and it's gotten better. I don't know how good it is, but if you can walk around art galleries at night, it has to be better than it was before. When I lived there, people got shot for standing on a street corner, so it's got to be better than that. My sister has also invited me for dinner over at her house, and it's going to be interesting to have her cooking since she's a vegetarian now. That's another change since the last time I was here. Everyone's growing and changing.
It was interesting to see the changes. My stepdad has long hair and a bushy beard now, my brother has gained weight and so has my sister. My stepdad has always been large, so I'm the smallest of them now. I used to be in the middle... I was smaller than my sister but larger than my brother. It feels good to know that I'm losing weight and on the right path, and I'm going to encourage them to get on the right path as well. I was talking to my brother about it, and he said he knows why he's gaining weight... he's not exercising and eating right. It's just that once those habits have been established, they are hard to change.
Speaking of good food habits, I blew it today. I had a bunch of cashews for breakfast, along with oatmeal. I broke the rules on the cashews- didn't measure, just ate straight out of the bag. I think I had about a half a cup of them, and that's a lot of nuts to eat just on their own. I also ate when I wasn't hungry for the oatmeal and lunch, which was tomato soup and crackers. Dinner I was hungry for, and that was salad and spaghetti. I've missed my stepdad's salads... bunches of different lettuce, feta cheese, and he has the largest selection of salad dressing you can imagine. It's like a grocery store in his house with all the food he has. That's why I have to be careful in what I eat, since he has so many foods that aren't so good for you. Mood today was good.. I feel good to be back in my childhood home, and even though things are different, some things don't change and that feels good as well.
