First Contact
The TPWD biologist came back with an entourage yesterday: The falconer and two others whose roles were not identified. The falconer carried a hawk she had found eating road kill in South Texas. A hawk needs to be near starvation to eat roadkill. I am currently upset with myself for not remembering the name of its breed, but. . . Me and names. . . I don't remember any of the new human names, either. The young hawk is not a skilled hunter. Even with the four humans flushing rabbits for him, catching one small rabbit was a challenge for him. He sure is a pretty boy, though. I was quite proud of how well Persilly remembered her training while the falconer and I talked with the hawk munching a rabbit leg inches from her meat-loving nose. Took some reminding, though. It was an unprecedented temptation in her life.
The biologist and his assistants(?) set the traps for the herpetology survey while the falconer and I talked feathers. They will be back to check them in a couple of weeks.
Small steps, big faith and lots of prayers. We see what grows.
