First appointment........ Laughing !!

Had my very first Rheumatology appt. today...... i was very nervous and thought i would be told that it was all in the mind the doctor was very nice and made me feel at ease. Firstly she said i have Hypermobile syndrome...... i laughed coz my poor old joints aint gonna get me a contortionist gig anytime soon!!! Then came the physical ( good job i matched the undies) after,  the doc told me that i have some kind of inflammatory arthritis and that she thinks possibly RA. I will be starting a course of SULFASALAZINE a.s.a.p and she also mentioned METHOTREXATE for a later date. I apologised several times for my very big smile.......coz i wasnt going mad after all!!! Nobody wants this horrible illness do they? especially when it makes you doubt your body AND mind !Very sore now..... oh, had several blood tests and x-rays as well x

Hi - Just because you have RA doesnt mean you\'re not crazy......!!! Seriously, glad you have a drug to be going on with. I think we all go through a bit of \"this cant be happening to my body/I take care of myself/I am a good person etc etc...\" Please post or journal on how you get on with sulfasalazine - it\'s the next thing they will try with me if methotrexate gives me problems again but I havent seen many postings about it on this site. Good luck - doesnt seem you have prednisone though as well. Many of us get that too as it takes away inflamation (only tick against a long box of crosses).

Isn\'t it great to just know finally what is wrong!?! My Rheumie put me on Prednisone, I was flaring when I saw her. I go back on the 28th to talk about meds. Hope the Sulfasalazine helps you! Love the fact that you matched the undies! I\'m lucky I got my legs shaved! LOL!

Hi Maxnkeith
Firstly I\'m so sorry you\'ve had such an awful time!
The treatment for RA is exceptional now. (I can only speak for the UK though).
It took a while for me to be diagnosed and I was expecting at the time so they couldn\'t do a lot but as soon as I had the baby they started the treatment. I went from being full of pain in hands, knees, shoulders etc and unable to work to well not really any different to anyone else. In fact I have 2 jobs now!
They start with drugs like Sulfasalazine, if that doesn\'t work Methotrexate (that worked really well for me) then if that\'s not that great then it\'s the biologigal therapies along side Methotrexate which is what I\'m on now. By the way, what\'s Hypermobile Syndrome? Sounds great!
All the best you will get there with it:)
