First ala-non meeting last night
Last night I went to my first ala-non meeting. It was interesting, not fun. I learned a lot, and found out I really had no idea how deeply rooted my issues with co-dependency are. It's a tough thing to do to look in the mirror and not like who you are, but then to realize that you don't like who you are, and the only way you can is to have someone validate you, and when they do you still don't like who you are, but you can at least fake it for a little while.
That's a lot to swallow. The theme to last night's meeting was denial. I didn't know how it effected me as a co-dependent, but soon realized that I have dealt with denial through this entire process by denying that my relationship with my parents (mom in particular) had no effect on me as I was growing up. I was a fool to not get these issues taken care of and fixed sooner.
So I cried a lot, then I cried some more. I went home and read the affirmation for yesterday, got up and read the affirmation for today, and I'm just working on myself. I'm really trying.
Therapy in two days and I see babe on Friday. I have some hope.
