This is not an onerous task; the main role of a Year Level Representative is to assist the JPG with the organisation of functions throughout the year and to seek support from parents at various year levels. There was great excitement for our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 boys as we opened up our Lower Primary playground. To see the boys in action and smiles on their faces as they explored the sandpit and adventure playground was fantastic. The look and feel of this space is similar to our indoor space, Invicta. The School carries 24-hour student personal accident insurance for all registered students.
As we continually strive to improve the educational experience for our students, your perspectives and feedback are vital. All four probationary prefects said the best thing about Junior School leadership was the many opportunities to spend time with older students across the road. The Year 5 boys should be very proud of their questions, as they elicited high-quality responses from some high-quality young men who are certain to lead BGS well in 2024. Brighton Grammar School is a very highly rated combined school in Brighton, Bayside VIC. The private school has 1337 students with a student-to-teacher ratio of 1 to 9. We will begin to send home the boys’ smocks, library bags, and gumboots for the end of year. We are also excited to send home the boys individual USB, documenting some of the wonderful learning they have enjoyed throughout the year.
The year level was split across both campuses with the day filled with a mixture of academic classes as well as relationship-building activities. Highlights for the year 7s included exploring each other’s school environments and getting to know each other. The spotlight has been on Science this week with many fantastic events happening around the school to celebrate Science Week. The visit from ‘Rookeepers Wild Display’ was a highlight, with the week being capped off tomorrow with rocket launches on the Crowther.
I have been so impressed with the way in which our new Year 7s have integrated into their ‘new normal’ with the systems and routines of the Secondary School. It is wonderful to see the engagement and connectedness of our community on show at these well-attended events, all of which support the learning and wellbeing of our students. For our term time families, we wish you all the best for a relaxing break over the next two weeks, and for our 48 week long day care boys, we know you have an exciting holiday program planned ahead. Our boys’ enjoyment was obvious and they will have fond memories of their experiences on the stage. Congratulations to all boys, staff and to the many parents, families and ELC to Year 5 ‘buddies’ of Wilson House for supporting the show.
Over the last two weeks, our Year 8s have had an extremely successful experience as they bushwalked, cycled and canoed through the Hattah-Kulkyne National Park, better known as Hattah. Congratulations to these boys who were awarded Winter Sport, Music and Production colours in yesterday’s assembly. When Simba’s father Mufasa is killed by his uncle Scar, Simba is led to believe that his father’s death is his fault, and he is encouraged to run away forever. Scar seizes power and with his already unstable mind deteriorating, the Pride Lands experiences a darkness and desolation from which only Simba can save the animals of the kingdom.
Firbank has close ties with its brother school, Brighton Grammar School, a boys' school. Students of the two schools participate in a number of co-educational activities together such as music and drama. Thanks to the many parents who have completed our annual School Improvement Tool survey.
His land was surveyed for subdivision in the spring of 1841, defined by the crescent-shaped street layout which remains today, and subdivided allotments were offered for sale. Dendy's town site was initially marketed as Waterville, but he soon renamed his land the Brighton Estate, and the site for his own home 'Brighton Park'. A depression struck, purchasers were few, and Dendy's scheme for emigration and land sales failed. The Were family acquired the land for highly profitable resale after the depression.
The holidays would have also seen many frantic finishing touches being made to the iDesign submissions by Year 8 students. There is always a great buzz in the Urwin Centre as boys and parents drop off their creations on the first day back of Term 4, and then as the boys get to admire and critique each other’s creations. The BGS Annual Giving Appeal will take place next week on Tuesday 23 May. Parents of ELC- Year 6 boys are reminded that for a $2 donation, boys may wear casual clothes to school.
Well done to Terry Ji and Waters Zhang who qualified for the final rounds in the fast response category. Jasper Mace, Lenny Lui, Kyle Wang, Roy Gu, Max Liu and Tom McLean also performed well. It was a wonderful opportunity to represent BGS and showcase their skills in the subject. Congratulations to our champion mathematicians who competed in the Mathematics Association of Victoria Year 5 Maths Games Day at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar last week. They enthusiastically took part alongside 132 students in a series of maths challenges including problem-solving, automatic recall and strategy games.
The young squad continue to show their quality, resilience and determination to finish the year off on a high. Victorian Collections acknowledges the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first inhabitants of the nation and the traditional custodians of the lands where we live, learn and work. With over 5 years of experience leading Commercial Partnerships, Events and Match Day Experiences at the AFL, Jo is passionate about female leadership and creating opportunities for team members to be their best selves. Made up of four BGS students, Constellation is an experienced team capable of taking on the world. Team Constellation must raise our last amount of $10,153 to pay for travel costs and the all-important development of our race car and presentation booth.
