Finding peace in noisy places
I dont know why but since Ive been young, Ive a hard a hard time being in noisy places and its gotten worse as Ive gotten older. I have tried to stop going to Walmart or any of the large chain stores and havent been in a mall in quite awhile. The radio blasting in a car bothers me. The noise at work bothers me(this is why I so desperately want to close my door). When the landlord is mowing the yard, the noise bothers me.
I wonder why this is? I think Arfie was right, I am beginning to break away from needing chaos. I think signing this lease has forced me to have to be still. I know I cant go anywhere else and so i am forced to use this time to be still and maybe do quiet things like reading a book, simply sitting outside and closing my eyes and listen to the wind and the birds. To go to treehouses and disappear for a few days..

I know not your needs or your place on your strictly personal journey, my sister-in-healing. Just sharing particulars from my own, strictly personal healing journey. May I find comfort in the evidence that I amnae as alone as I so often feel?
Perhaps a silver lining in my own chaotic birthright is, "Selective Hearing." Perhaps. The mystery of my hearing weirds remains far more mystery than proven fact and the names for ^it^ are still to numerous for clarity. Still, there is no doubt that the listening skills learned from being crammed in the back of a station wagon with 10 siblings contributed to my gift for shutting out ambient noise, such as lawn mowers and blasting radios. I can and have routed circuit boards in the video arcades which entertained my children while I worked to keep quarters on the table. I can only offer hollow platitudes to the agonies of being sound sensitive. On the days I feel hysterical worry over my hearing loss, immunity from the agonies of sound sensitivity does look like a blessing within the loss.
In my over-active imagination, I am already dangling my feet from the tree limb while we toss tasty tidbits to the resident chickens below. Only 3 more days before we test the theory. Even if the theory doesn't pan out, the daydream is marvelous. Thank you.
Yes, and I think so too. I think when people get irritated to the point where they have to move, ....in a sense, they are just running away from themselves.
There are many psychologists who say that we are responsible for how we feel. We can choose to feel miserable or we can find something to be happy about. Repeating positive affirmations over and over again, works wonders. Reminds me of a time in my life when I worked in a shop with an older fellow. The work was miserable. The pay sucked, and the boss had anger issues. I asked my older coworker...how can we be happy working in a place like this.and he told me to pretend to be happy. It took alot of practice but over time, I found peace and today, I never turn on my car radio unless I want to listen to an audio book that will help my mind to grow.
I never listen to those "yea, yea, baby" songs anymore...(That's what my father use to call them. Cracked me up every time :)
For a long time, my Higher Mind wanted to talk to me but all the noise and chatter of life prevented me from hearing...that's why I love outdoors and love the silence of nature except for an occasional bird singing.
God Bless
Yes...somedays i can block all my surroundings out. I do this by pretending I am invisible. I put my headphones in and watch the world like a movie around me without feeling I have to exist in it. Then, there are the days where I cant shutthe noise out as much as I try. I did start taking my meds again. They help me detach slightly to wear I dont really pay attention to anything although remaining self aware of the people around me. Im giving these meds a full 6 weeks.
Yes Arfie we'll be watching the chickens and the ducks from a birds eye view. All my friends at work think Im nuts for going and want to hear all about it. They dont see me as the outdoorsey type but I have been my whole life. Funny how people judge on appearan es.
