Many, several programs are available to students through-out all Phoenix Public Schools districts. Realizing the frequent requirement for improvements, and to keep up with international and national requirements, Phoenix Schools are meeting these demands directly. InnoWorks, a new research program offered to underprivileged Phoenix Schools middle-school students, was applied in February 2007 by Grace Hsieh, a junior in the University of Arizona. When she found a web site detailing the program InnoWorks, which had its origins at Duke University Hsieh was planning to start a peer mentor and tutoring program.

Phoenix Schools middle-schoolers take part in a free of charge science camp organized and run solely by UA undergraduates. Twenty-four pupils from six Phoenix Schools were chosen for the camp. InnoWorks leaders hope that by revealing underprivileged Phoenix Schools students to science re-search and college campuses, more students is likely to be inspired to examine science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

'Immediately it was easy to understand just what a great plan it was, in its idea and vision,' Hsieh said.

Hsieh has recruited about 20 other students to work, gathered about $20,000 in donations to finance the program as teachers, and sought out people by calling Phoenix Schools experts and teachers.

Phoenix Schools are beginning to provide young ones in Grades K-10 a chance to study via the International Baccalaureate program. This can be a training model used around the globe that pushes students to become proficient in a minimum of two languages, think critically and study on a global perspective by studying other countries.

Mesa Public Schools can soon become the first school district in Phoenix Schools, and one of just a handful nationwide, to provide an IB system to students from kindergarten through the end of high school.
