The event is held annually to advance the center’s mission to empower adults and children experiencing domestic violence and/or sexual assault, increase awareness and responsiveness in the community through prevention, education, outreach and advocacy. The Big Country Children’s Benefit Hunt is a hunting club conceived to take youth in DFPS Conservatorship and others on outdoors experiences to include hunting, fishing and camping. BCCBH is not part of nor sponsored by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
Wendy is the coordinator of the Monarch Joint Venture, a national conservation partnership to conserve the monarch butterfly migration. With over 30 partners, she engages many different audiences with the same goal of creating or enhancing habitat for monarchs and other pollinators. She is an alumni of the University of Minnesota, where she began studying monarchs through an undergraduate research position with Dr. Karen Oberhauser at the Monarch Lab.

BCFS Health and Human Services-Abilene collaborated with the Big Country Children’s Benefit Hunt on an outdoor hunting expedition that will provide an educational opportunity for youth to learn about the responsibilities of firearm safety, hunting safety, and basic outdoor survival training. Youth were nominated by Child Protective Services staff based on each youth’s case file and consultations with each youth’s case manager, foster family, and experienced hunters from within CPS and the community. As a field representative and trainer, Ray visits with officers and works to assist them during times of crisis. Prior to TMPA he spent 25 years in law enforcement, retiring from the Brenham Police Department after 22 years.
Monarchs migrate through the southern Great Plains during both spring and fall migration, and reproduce in this region during spring and fall breeding periods. This presentation will introduce what is known about how land use and management practices influence milkweed and nectar resource availability, monarch distribution and abundance, and monarch-parasite interactions, including a discussion of the implications for monarch conservation in this region. The federal Office of Head Start awarded BCFS Education Services the Head Start program in Victoria, Jackson, Calhoun, Gonzales, Dewitt and Lavaca counties, beginning this upcoming school year. BCFS Education Services is a well-established Head Start provider, serving nearly 2,000 students and families throughout Texas.

He enjoys working with everyone at TMPA because they all really care about members and the programs TMPA offers. Prior healthcare compliance to TMPA, Kevin served with the Baytown Police Department as a Police Officer and Field Training Officer. He also worked as a Police Officer for the Southwestern University Police Department, and with the Georgetown Police Department as a Patrol Officer, Sergeant and Instructor.
