The dim-sims are in cute little baskets that unfortunately only hold one dumpling at a time . There are also other treats such as fluffy pork buns, egg tarts, and the obligatory spring rolls. During the day, the spacious room is already lovely, but at night-time it’s borderline opulent with its high ceilings, wall to wall windows, and plush couches.

I would rather take my business to the Melba restaurant than the superficial China Bar. There isn’t a huge selection of sushi available because it’s lunch time, just your generic salmon rolls and a couple more. At dinner this area becomes much more exciting, because not only do things like scallop sushi get added to the selection, but this is also where they slice up the fresh sashimi. The fruits are seasonal, with apples, watermelon, oranges, and nectarines on offer. Very nice variety, many dishes to choose from, the buffet was colourful and vibrant. My favourite was a sashimi platter with raw salmon and the Hainan chicken dish was delicious.
A focus on fried stuff, use of MSG and the quality of the ingredients is rather average. For example in the photo above, them golden fried things at the top are described as "deep fried scallops". If you cut one in half, you'll see that it's actually made up of layers - much like how imitation crab sticks are made. This place has the worst service and off food, way overpriced and they push you out of the restaurant after 1 hr even when you have food on your plate, arrogant as well. The restaurant information including the China Bar Buffet & Grill Burwood East menu items and prices may have been modified since the last website update.

We received an invite to attend a media launch at the shiny new Taste of Shanghai Burwood restaurant. It is a huge space attached to Westfield shopping centre; with a large open kitchen and modern fit out with decorative reference to Shanghai. This new venue is sophisticated and complete with a bar which is right in front of you at the entrance. There is also a private dining room, complete with two large round tables both with an extravagant marble lazy Susan. Choose your refreshment, be it white wine, red wine, beer, maybe a lychee and mango crush, ice cream milk tea or signature lemon tea.The ordering was left in the hands of our lovely host Amy.
I think the only thing worth commending was that they enforced any COVID protocols quite well. Given the current situation and the nature of buffets, it's as much as can be asked for. Although they did feel like we were asking the world of them when on person forgot their mask and asked if they could donate one. Given the situation, we are partially at fault too as everyone should know and have one by now.

Obviously better than the crud you get at the likes of Food Star, but nothing to write home about. While there is variety, the quality isn't that stellar. If you’d prefer to get your takeaway yourself, simply browse Burwood restaurants offering pickup. I don't need to comment about the food in terms of taste, as it has been shown from its reputation. One thing is, this place has lots of food selection and they are popular in Asian culture.

Of course there’s also your typical sweet and sour pork and honey chicken. I’ll probably be stripped of my foodie status for saying this but, I Love Buffets. To me, the sheer variety and quantity of food available excuses any corners cut in terms of quality (unless if you’re at Smorgy’s; nothing excuses food that bad). Because let’s face it – no one goes to buffets for fine dining; it’s the promise of All You Can Eat that’s luring all the people in.

You got to pour your own soy sauce and wasabi into one of those little bowls if you wanted it - it was delicious.
