Finally Believing
One thing that I've been learning is that I can't let minor set backs run my life. There are always going to be those people out there who say just the opposite of what I was hoping to hear. That obviously has the potential to bring about feelings of anxiety. I'm beginning to realize though, that deep down inside, I am the one who has the answers. It is through my own thoughts, feelings, beliefs, etc. that I am really going to get past this.
Knowing and believing this however are two different things. Before, I was always able to say yes I understand it's all on me. I have the power to change what I do not like. People tell me this all the time and I felt like it was nothing new, that I knew that from being told so many times. I still, however, relied more on what I was being told by other people. I was allowing the words of other people to influence and direct my thoughts. What I needed to be doing was pushing those words aside and listening to myself. But just knowing this is not enough. It's the actually believing that will make a difference. I was recently put into a situation that really made me realize this. I was made to second guess myself and question my thoughts and behaviors. Through this I came to finally really understand and truly believe that I DO have the power to change myself and that ONLY I hold that power. Moving on from this point forward, it's my opinions that matter, my thoughts that are going to run my life, and my feelings that I am going to acknowledge; not what other people are telling me to do, think, and feel. Knowing that I have the power is important, but believing that I have the power is essential!
