Finally At Peace

It has been a long journey since May 22, 2009.  That was the date I lost the only person I wanted to live my life out with.  He suffered a terrible disease, and watching him waste away day by day was heart-wrenching.  The wonderful part is that he has not totally left me.  I know he is always with me, as I can feel his presence.  It is quite wonderful.
Living alone is a wonderful journey now.  In the beginning I was terrified and in wonder of what I was going to do with the rest of my life.  I didn't know who I was, where I was going to turn, and didn't really want to live another day without my DH.  But, I survived and I'm here, by the grace of God.

I still live my life on a day to day basis, for every day we are given is a gift.  I've heard "You are going to live a long life." so many times it makes me vomit.  No one knows how much time they have and no one can predict that for you.  It is just one more statement I could enter into my own book of things to not say to a widow.  But, I'll leave that topic alone for it all doesn't really matter at this point.
Even though my husband is physically absent, I am still married in my heart.  Removing my rings would just be one more reminder of the pain we both suffered so long ago.
Advice for you all, whether newly widowed or a veteran, do what you want to do in your life.  Don't allow anyone to impose their views and ideas on you, especially in the early vunerable days of your widowhood.  You do what you want, feel what you want, and be who you want.  After all, it is YOUR life.
