finally
Well........ my 16 year old son, T, started treatment yesterday. It's an intensive outpatient "program" that's pretty unique because he's about the only one being treated in the outpatient today. The place is set up for a full day program including school, but he's the only one receiving treatment without this school, at least, for today. When he started yesterday there were two other kids but one is getting bumped up to the more intense program and the other is "graduating". Yesterday the doctor, who oversees everything met with T and me for about an hour and a half. Basically, he wanted my son to give him his drug history with me for input. Although I've heard his history before, it doesn't get any better hearing it again. I really liked the doctor, he really seems to know his "stuff" and was easy to talk to. He will be involved with T's treatment, too. I am glad. Today on the way to his appointment, he started to light up a cigarette while I was driving on the thruway. I told him no but that wasn't good enough. He had to argue, claiming he didn't like my explanation. Why I engaged in this "conversation" is beyond me. He knows that I will allow him to smoke in our new van once we get a regular road, but for some reason ........Guess this is part of it....... Even though he's not using.....sometimes he certainly carries some of these behaviors. I know better than to let him get the best of me..... It's okay..... I'd rather have these kind of "almost" normal problems than the ones we used to have!

Good luck! Good to see things are getting better!
yes, they are getting better, dont the;y....this cigarette thing is a sort of normal problem...lol........sooooo glad things are going along well....lots of love Cathrynn X
Your request is not unreasonable. Ours has/does smoke and it is not allowed in the cars or in the house PERIOD. Let him get out and walk home....?! He needs to see that this is not about him (your control over him) but about how you feel in terms of smoke (unhealthy, stinks, irritating smoke, etc.) Empathy is hard for teens and harder I believe for addicts.
HANG IN THERE!!!!!
Normally the cigarette rule is the same with us...but I made an exception (smoking in the van on side roads once off the thruway) because we have no time in between school and treatment for him to get a smoke in. He tried to smoke one on the way home, once off the truway, and I told him no. I had made an exception and that was that. He gave me no trouble...
