Feigning Incompetence
So the paper got done & all that was left was a powerpoint presentation: just pictures/images that had to do with the paper. In other words: 1-Google Images (15 of them), 2-copy & paste into powerpoint, 3-arrange into some sort of order. I left that part of the project for him to do alone, but I did highlight some key words on the rough draft to get him started on what images he might want to focus on. And then he SHUT DOWN. Tell me: what 16 year old does not know how to work Google Images?
I turned into the crazy lady: I yelled, I screamed, I intimidated. Yeah, I probably shouldn't have done that. But physically I am so tired & worn out; my defenses are down. And I KNOW there is NO reason he could not do this part of the project. The writing part I helped with because he has deficiencies in writing, but I know he knows how to use Google! Why should I do something for him that he is perfectly capable of doing himself? I call this "feigning imcompetence" (after an "Everybody Loves Raymond" episode). I don't know why he wants to fail. I told him: just do it & he'll never have to do it ever again--he'll be done with Civics & this teacher forever! WHY DOES LOGIC NOT WORK ON THIS KID???
I cried: God, why are you not interfering in his head? I am not asking for me, I'm asking for my son!
Because here's the thing: I know that I have no control over this situation (obviously). I'm using my influence every way till Sunday, but only 2 people actually have control over what my son does or doesn't do: 1-my son, and 2-God. And nothing is happening. What the heck.
Yeah, I know he obviously has a problem. But every time I try to get at what it is, I get: "I don't know." Oh, baloney!
