Feeling very discouraged
Hello DS Family, I am feeling really discouraged and without a lot of hope right now. My mom had applied for Social Security Disability and she got a letter in the mail yesterday which said that she did not meet the definition of disability under some retarded law. I mean she has bipolar disorder, PTSD, Clinical Depression, Pulmonary Hypertension, and Chronic Pain among other things. What does she have to do to prove that she is disabled; throw herself down a flight of stairs and break her f'n legs? It is also discouraging because me and my mom where going to use some of her money from disability to get a place of our own so we can get away from my alcoholic brother and the stressful environment that we live in. However, now I feel trapped here with no way out.

You need to have your mother apply again. Social Security always, always denies benefits the first time. I\'m a special ed teacher and the voc teacher at my school tells all parents their child will be denied the first time - regardless of their disability - and they must apply again. Good luck
have your mom to fight it. have your mom appeal it. they do deny you first time. try again
Appeal and get a lawyer. That way, no matter what else happens, in 2 years she\'ll more than likely get it. 2 years sounds like a long time, but it\'s better than not appealing and having to wait much longer because you missed the opportunity! I just got denied for the 3rd time. I have all the same issues as your mom. I wish now that I had appealed it and got a lawyer the 1st time because I would have had it by now...
If you don\'t have a r behind you saying you are disabled then I would use Binder and Binder to help you. These people get you results. Google them. Don\'t stop trying.
