Feeling Lousy Today
I have been dealing with my daughter-in-law's family these past several days and although they have not been outright mean or nasty, they have done a number on me indicating that I don't belong. Normally I wouldn't care, but there is a grandson involved. It's mostly the mother, the woman must maintain her top spot with everything family. She and her husband had nine children, eight males and my daughter-in-law, all adults now, most are married with children so it's a big family. The kind of stick together family where no one can piss without Mom and Dad being informed. They have assimilated my son and grandson. Yes, assimilated, like the Borg on Star Trek. Thing is, I could like the mom and really enjoy her company if she wasn't always making a point of her position. I don't give a crap who my son or grandson loves more, or who they spend more time with, I just would like to see my grandson once in a while without having to wade through the "ties that bind" drek. I come from a small family where we were all free. I thank my mother and father for that. This tribal dynamic, blah, it's a pain in the butt.

Relatives or extended families can be a major pain in the butt. It makes for difficult holidays each and every time. We shall make it, but it isn\'t fun.
I could have written your journal .. unfortunately! I\'m stuck with my son\'s MIL and my daughter\'s MIL... I thought one was bad, but two? omg... one is passive/aggressive, the other one is better than thou. Nice decent people, but people I\'d run from and not make friends with. But we don\'t have a choice and have to rise above it cause of the grands.
Maybe we should have had a dozen kids too, lol!!
