Feeling better than I thought I would.

I wrote last night that I found out my little sister is pregnant at 18.  Last night i was having a tough time being ok with this and feeling happy for her since this is going to seriously impact her future obviously, and of course because she is now pregnant before me when it really should be the other way around.  I saw her today for her 18th birthday and I think I can honestly say that I am happy for her.  She and her boyfriend are excited about this baby and they have somewhat of a plan for mapping out their lives once she/he gets here.  They seem to understand at least as much as those of us who have never had children can about how hard it is going to be to raise a child and they seem to be emotionally ready for the challenge at least, if not financially.  I thought that maybe I would be bitter about her pregnancy, but it seems that I really am not.  I am happy to discover this about myself, especially around the time of year which is mostly about peace and love and happiness and giving.  I hope I am able to continue giving her my full support and love as I am excited to meet this child.
Interestingly - she actually was also having a fertility problem.  She and her boyfriend were not trying to get pregnant but they were rather careless with the birth control and wondering at the fact that she had never gotten pregnant over the several years they have been together so they went to see a fertility specialist to see if there was something wrong.  Apparently my sister's fallopian tubes would swell during her period and this swelling would last for at least a week after her period was finished and was the cause of both her inability to get pregnant as well as her painful periods.  I had never heard of this swelling issue before she told me about it, but apparently without meds her doctor gave her a one in a million chance of conceiving.  Of course her doctor gave her meds for this issue and she - being a silly teenager - only thought of the small chance of her ever conceiving, not about the fact that she was taking something that would fix this problem and voila! Pregnant!
Maybe infertility issues do run in our generation of our family.  Who knew?!
