Feeling a bit better

The mood swings are not as bad today. I called disability and they said I should have my decision in a week or so. I know I will be denied the first time, so I just have to appeal and so on. I've been drinking more water, the headaches are gone. I hope I can continue to feel okay.

I feel so bad you have to go threw the social security disability process ... it was horrible to watch my husband go threw it. There is no reason it should be handled the way they do. I honestly think they just divide the applications in piles and then deny so many of them just without ever looking at them. Some things i found helpful was to read the social security bluebook... its online.... get an understanding of what they think is approved. My husband ended up having an attorny help and still got denied several times... then one of the times he was in the hospital ... on life support ... during that time i got another denial from social security... i showed it to the doctor and he personally called the administrative law judge and got the denial over turned.
Dont give up continue to fight... get all the information you can on SSI and SSDI having knowledge is power with these people just dont let them know you have the knowledge or they will use that against you too :(

Rissa, I have an attorney. They say you get denied the first time, I was, then the second time, the third you then go to a hearing and get approved. it takes about 18 months to two years of appeals, I just started my appeals last month. You get all back monies owed minus attorney fees of about $6,000. SSDI is done this way to discourage you from applying for SSDI. They don\'t want to have you on their payroll. ALSO, you will only get about $1,000 a month. You need to learn as much as possible about it. If you and Geo both go on SSDI, they lump you together as a married couple and you get a portion of benifets, NOT $1,000 each, only like $650 each, or what ever they decide, that I am not positive about, but I am told it is reduced by a percentage, my wife and I both are applying. GET AN ATTORNEY once you are denied, they only get paid when you are approved. Make sure you understand too, SSI and SSDI are two different things. Don\'t get discouraged, Good Luck, Michael

Thanks Michael! I know I\'m going to get denied- I\'m looking up lawyers now. Geo currently has SSI, and I\'m going for SSDI. Geo gets the standard $674 SSI payment, and I should get around $950 for my SSDI. I\'ve talked to Social Security about it. I just don\'t know what I\'m going to do for a place to live- I can\'t work and earn money, and Geo\'s SSI doesn\'t even cover the rent..Worst case- Geo goes to live with his mom, and I move back to LA to live with my stepdad. I just don\'t want to do that, but it may come down to it.
