feelin' fat

I don't get on the scales much but my clothes are shrinking.  It must be the dryer or I'm gettin' fat.  I have been eating too much sugar at night.  Weird cravings, or really more of an intense desire for chewing.  Yes, I chew the sugarless gum and suck on sugarfree candy, but there is still a need to eat when I'm not hungry.  I pretty much blame it on perimeno-crap--o-pause.  Hormones can screw up the metabolism like a light switch being turned on and off.  I'm puffy in the morning and it takes most of the day to lose the water my body is retaining.  Yes, I drink lots of water.   I feel puffy and bloated and fat.  It's a strangely soft and round experience that is disconcerting.   Extra padding that I'm not used to.  Where did it all come from? I just checked the menopause support group and checked on posts about weight gain.  Lots of women talking about gaining weight around the middle.  CHECK.  They also say that it doesn't come off no matter what they do to try to lose it.  Say what?! I'm not entering any beauty pageants but that doesn't mean I'm happy about this explosion of puffiness.  Vanity?  Not so much.  Comfortable clothes?  Oh, yes, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout.    Stretchy pants for every occasion. Carry on.

I think you are getting ambushed by carb cravings. They are very much a part of ME/CFS. I especially get them around bedtime. My dad used to keep condensed milk in the fridge for his coffee. Once I got started stealing a spoonful late at night, that stuff became like opium to me.

Sometimes it\'s crackers. I can go through most of a box when the craving hits me. And sometimes I find I get really, really hungry right after finishing a big meal...go figure. None of this is normal, it\'s all this stupid disease.

Hi K! Hope you had a good Christmas! I can totally relate to your post! i have actually been putting on a few pounds finally! No, I am not really happy about it, but after losing the 35 lbs I lost so quickly and then NOT gaining despite eating a lot, it was bound to start happening eventually.
I, too, have been eating constantly and think some of it is nerves or boredom or other emotional causes. and these past 2 days am extremely puffy! I am on a diuretic for the high BP but even that is not taking the puffiness away. Maybe it is the salt from the ham I have eaten for 2 days?
One thing about this \"mental pause\" is that I still get PMS cravings..salt sugar combos that I need to eat...it is odd since I don;t have cycles though! Hmm it is a mystery these hormones!
I am giving myself until the 1st of the year than it is time to cut out the crap eating again!
Be well!

I put on some pounds this holiday season, too. Didn\'t mean to, but, darn, my son\'s girlfriend\'s grandmother sent over some pastry. OMG, couldn\'t leave it alone! Plus, some cocktails as well, harumph! Gotta get my cravings under control. As Richie said, mostly for carbs.

I hear you on the middle fat. Not fair! I\'m starving myself and watching my middle expand. How can that be? Oh yah, the cravings...
My doctor put me on Niaspan (time released niacin) and if I eat any sugar after dinner, I flush - bad. Well, that just made it way easy to avoid sugar. LOL

Yep. My diet tip of the day. Get some niacin... (and that\'s a joke, ok? don\'t really do it.)
