February 15, 2010 Bone scan results/General info

I had my repeat bone scan and followup with Dr Dougherty, osteo oncologist.  He said that the issue did not clear itself up and that the cysts on the spine/back of the head are much worse than the one done back in July.  yes, I was extremely upset but later on figured that when they did the spine biopsy last summer and that it came back as benign did anyone do anything about it?  No!  So, why wouldn't I NOT have anything.  Anyways, my next step is to get a PETT scan done.  Which is tomorrow morning.  This will tell us exactly what is going on.   I have to prep today - no carbs, bread, sweets.  No lifting, pulling, house work.  I think the techs want me to be completely relaxed for the procedure.  Also, The radioactive dye they use has a sweetness additive to it so the test would be messed up if I had carbs.  Looks like a high protein diet today.  I have some turkey I am thawing out in the fridge for dinner tonight and left over french cut green beans.  Yumm.....  I didn't eat any of my valentines treats the hospital gave us yesterday so I will eat them tomorrow when I get back to work at noon. they are wrapped up and put them away in the drawer so I won't be tempted.   They told me the test lasts 2-3 hrs.  So, wish me luck that everything goes ok.  Dr Dougherty originally had me go to a specialist for the PETT scan consult but this doctor does not do this.  So....I see him on Thursday afternoon for the results.  The dr also ordered blood (the doctor group has their own phlebotomy group so the girl came in and took 3 viles of blood).  I will let you know what Dr Dougherty says and what his recommendations are.  I am hoping that they would only monitor it.  Perhaps he would order another spine biopsy again?  I am about 80% sure that might happen.
Dad is doing extremely well.  Healing nicely.  Still can't bend that arm the way he should be but he will.  I think positive thinking really helped him with this.  The mind plays a lot.
Aunt Judy is not doing well at all.  Its a matter of time.  Apparently she has been on 2 rounds of chemo and its not taking at all.  Mom and Dad went to see her yesterday and she is very irritable to the point of unrecognizable.  apparently the cancer is not only in the colon but in the liver as well.  Her stomach is distended like she is 9 months pregnant.  She is 60 years old.  I think she has it in her mind that nothing will work and is giving up her will to live.  Her mother Alice is beside herself and does not know what to do.  I really feel for my god father because he lost his mother (my grandmother) 4 months ago and now he is on the verge of losing his wife.   she really is a wonderful person, Aunt Judy was my confirmation sponsor.  Very caring and compassionate.  to have her act like this brings be back to the time of my other grandmother (dad's mother).  She was extremely irritible when she had her lung cancer.  Irritible to the point that she would argue about having a ham sandwich (this happened while on vacation at alleghany state park.  While having lunch we had a choice of peanut butter and Jelly or ham - she yelled and screamed at me about eating the ham) or making koolaid and the amount of sugar (I would put 1/2 cup but she would yell and scream at me to put 1 cup).  This was 1982 when I was 16.  Crazy shit like that.
My friend Jen went to the ER because she hit her head in the tub.  Spend the entire afternoon with her.  I was happy to do it but it took so long.  Jen is on several types of meds and I think the meds counteract with eachother and made her dizzy.  I told her to be careful and told her about my private home care aide patient's husband who took some meds and died.  I am worried that one day, I am gonna find her on the floor passed out or dead.  Will she listen, no.  I also asked her about her packing and throwing crap out (she is a hoarder).  She claims she is getting rid of stuff but I know she hasn't done a thing.  I told her that I will not help her out unless everything is packed up to go.  I am not walking into an apartment full of junk and nothing packed.  Moving is suppose to last at least 2-4 hrs not an all day long ordeal.  She also needs to find guys to help her with her furniture.  Paul (our mutual friend) and I cannot be lifting heavy furniture.  That is not what I need to be telling my doctors - especially enlight of having some cysts on my spine.  Jeesh......
Ok, enough bitching for now.  Thanks for listening.
