Note that these attractions are rather spread out, and it’s not always easy to find a taxi in Taitung city, nor is the public transportation very convenient.
After the one hour guided tour at Turtle Island, we hopped back onto the ferry and started our dolphin-watching cruise. The seas were very calm and we managed to see a lot of dolphins at close proximity. The highlight would be a 5-storey high spiral pool slide that leads into a hot spring pool. Thankfully, my morbid thought of being boiled alive like a prawn sliding into a pot of hot oil slowly turning into tempura didn’t happen. A new kid on the block,MAJI Square(MAJI集食行樂) is a conglomeration of local stalls from food to little trinkets such as in handmade earrings and bracelets.
Kenting Street is where visitors are offered with a complete selection of foods while embraced by enjoying a relaxing holiday ambience. The city’s biggest green space,Taitung Forest Park, is situated right at the edge of town. Here you’ll find awe inspiring prehistoric temples dating back over 6,000 years predating both the Pyramids of Egypt and Stonehenge.
If you’re visiting Zhiben Railway Station then the nearby F Hotel Chihpen is a popular hotel with HotelsCombined users (1,242 reviews scoring it at an average 8.3/10). Kindness Hotel -Taitung, rated with a score of 8.8 from 1,478 reviewers, is one of the most popular hotels in Taitung City. Other top stays include The Suites Taitung, with an average rating of 8.6 from 1,777 reviewers, and Sheraton Taitung Hotel, with a score of 8.1 from 2,040 reviewers. On weekends and around national holidays, getting vrail tickets can be difficult. Alternatively, consider traveling by bus from Taipei to Yilan City; services are ultra-frequent, with no need to book ahead. In Yilan, board one of the 13 or so local trains each day that head to Hualien.
They weren’t there yet in the picture taken above, but today Xinshe has become a new hot spot with the addition of some large statues, huts, and even a swing made of straw. As you drive south out of Hualien City on Highway 11, don’t pass up the chance to stop at Taiwan’s most unique Starbucks, built with 29 shipping containers. It’s just off Highway 11 in Ji’an township, before the highway reaches the cost. However, you’ll need to budget a whole day for the adventure, including driving time and the 3-4 hours needed to hike to it. Just south of the waterfall, Lintianshan Mountain Forestry Center (林田山森林業文化園區), a ghost village and forestry center.
We stayed in Jinghua Homestay 菁華河畔民宿, a clean and spacious space perfect for a travelling party of 2-6. If you’re looking for a true experience of staying with a local yet not invading their space and privacy, Jinghua Homestay is a lodge just like that. Also, the host Mrs. Hsu makes the best breakfast every morning. Taitung’s railway station is some way from its downtown core, but there are regular buses into the city center, as well as a Giant Bicycles rental store right outside the station.
There are many companies offeringsnorkeling,diving,SUPing, Surfing,Speed Boating,Glamping, River tracing,and other tours in Taitung. However Taitung has become an important tourist destination, and the local government has invested heavily in tourism development. However, there is also a community that don’t, where do we fit in? My aesthetic for example is largely influenced not only by my culture but ‘how’ my culture has adapted into New Zealand society. My past collections are far from traditional Cook Island costumes but large portions are inspired. If I were to describe a look from one of my many collections it would be contemporary.
For some, Taitung City may be the end of their east coast journey. But if you want to extend your trip all the way to the beaches of Kenting National Park at the southern tip of Taiwan, there are two ways to go about it. This elevated, winding road runs though the lower hills of the Coastal Mountain Range between highways 9 and 11, sticking closer to the former in the southern half. As much as I love Taitung, the real beauty of the county is in the countryside. Taitung City is small, spread out, and not particularly easy to explore with your own reals. Personally, I’d much rather spend the night in any of the rural villages I mentioned above, such as Chishang, Guanshan, Luye, or Dulan.
If you are flexible when it comes to your travel dates, use Skyscanner's 'Whole month' tool to find the cheapest month, and even day to fly to Taipei from Taitung. If you’re traveling by land, it’s important to know the distance from Taipei to Taitung. Before ending your Taiwan-round island tour and returning to Taipei, you will stop for a visit at one of the “Eight Wonders” in Taiwan, Qingshui Cliff, for another visual feast. It is a large river terrace recreational area, where the Youth Activity Center, a Catholic Church and the only 5-star hotel in the park are located. This area features many spectacular river landscapes, such as the meandering streams and the potholes, making Tianxiang the most picturesque place for dinning and lodge. Situated in the eastern part of Taiwan, Taroko National Park was established in the year of 1986.
You can also visit Duoliang on this half-day tour from Taitung. Cheng Ping Hot Spring Inn (see on Booking / Agoda / TripAdvisor) is my recommended choice here. Hotel Royal Chihpen (see on Booking / Agoda / TripAdvisor) offers a more luxurious experience.
F you look at a map of Taiwan, you’ll find that the island somewhat resembles a tobacco leaf, the southern end, Hengchun Peninsula, forming the leafstalk. There, close to the southern foothills of the Central Mountain Range (the leaf’s spine) you’ll find numerous indigenous villages, the residents of which belong to the Rukai and Paiwan tribes. You can also take a train from Kaohsiung in the west to Taitung in the east, getting off at Jinlun. You need to ask yourself a few questions when considering how many days in Taitung to spend. Are you passing through, or basing yourself here while you explore outwards?
Liuting International Airport is located approximately 22km away and Qingdao North Railway Station around 24km away. This hotel is located near many of Qingdao’s attractions including Luotuotou, Beijiushui River Laoshan and Lengcuixia. Prices were available within the past 7 days and start at $75 for one-way flights and $149 for round trip, for the period specified. You may explore the fascinating Taipei city, visit Taipei 101, Eastern District, Wufenpu, Tamsui, Shilin Night Market and other famous attractions.

It stretches 180 kilometers from Hualien to Taitung and is the basin for several rivers spilling down from the highest peaks of Taiwan in the Central Mountain Range to the sea. Another option is to catch the train between major towns, then hire a bicycle or scooter once you get there for exploring the area. For example, you can rent a scooter in Guangfu, Fenglin, Ruisui, or Yuli. My projects for both of my classes this semester are different.
