Feast of St Gerard - Sunday Oct 16
Since my last journal, I'm feeling a lot better. We filled out the new forms to expand our license and our social worker came over yesterday to review them and also look at our new home. It passed... :) We will also be getting a dog in the next couple of weeks...looking forward to that.
My husband and I attend a monthly support group meeting for adoption/foster care and the last meeting was help this past Wednesday. Our agency is Catholic Charities and if you haven't heard, they are going through a lawsuit with DCFS as a result of the new civil union law that was passed (ie California and Illinois included and others). Although the meeting was very informative, it was also an eye opener for us too. We thought that by opening up our license to foster care, we would have a better chance of parenting but after speaking to our social worker afterwards, it doesn't seem that way. I just feel like every time we are trying to look at other avenues of becoming parents, the doors slam shut. Very discouraging. So...it got me thinking about pursuing conception using donor eggs or by some miracle, using our own.
My niece got married last year and got pregnant a couple of months after. I had given her various info before and after she got married about getting pregnant. One of the items I sent her was a few pamphlets on St Gerard and a medal. Well, she and her husband did the Novena this time last year and now they have a daughter who is almost three months. They swear that it was the Novena that brought their daughter Caterina. She has been reminding about St Gerard's feast day (today, Oct 16) for the last several weeks. So, my husband and I are going to do, beginning tomorrow. It lasts for nine days. If anyone is interested on how it works, here is the link: http://www.saintgerard.com/nineday.html. My cute little miracle is now 9months old... You and your DH should really investigate the Donor option. It\'s better than adopting, because the baby will have your husband\'s genes, and you will give it life by nourishing it with your own body.
I cannot recommend it enough! I too prayed to St Gerard, and also to St Anne... I hate to think of where I would be now if I didn\'t take the Donor option. I thank God every day that we made that choice. xox
What did the social worker said that made you think it is hopeless? i do think that donor eggs is a very good option. I agree with what Speranza said. I\'m not Catholic but I willing to try and pray to St Gerard. Thanks and best wishes on your decision.

Very beautiful name. Wendy\'s has a foster adoption program - maybe you could check out their website and see what they have. I just read an article about the success rate of their program. They might have some good information for you.
Thanks for the encouragement everyone and for the compliment on my future baby\'s name. :) I will definitely check out Wendy\'s adoption program. I think we are going to try the donor egg route. At this point in time, I need to lose at least 30 pounds. I am really struggling with it. I\'m thinking about trying the HCG diet. Do you know of anyone who has tried it and been successful with pregnancy?
