Fathers

Fathers are important.  Just as important as mothers.  The presence or lack thereof is vital to a child's well being.  I believe that is why God designed us to create new people in male and female pairs.  We need both influences.
My dad was not perfect but he did the best he could with what he knew.  He mellowed with age and he was better able to hug and love his grandkids than his own kids.  Getting to know my dad as an adult made me appreciate and love him a lot more than I ever did as a child.  Seeing him and my mom take care of one another as they aged and knowing they actually went to dinner together, made me realize that they really did love each other.  They were married 45 years before my mom passed away.  I saw my dad sleep on the floor at the nursing home when mom got a hip replacement because the nursing staff there did not help Mom fast enough.  I saw him take her home from the "extended stay hospital" which was really a glorified nursing home when the insurance stopped paying and he was tired of her making ZERO progress.  He did the breathing treatments and suctions.  She was an invalid and could not get up to use the toilet so he had to literally change her diapers, deal with her bedsores, and everything.  It may have only been 2 days that she got to be home before she had another stroke and had to go back to the hospital, but Mom got to go HOME.  It was because of Dad that Mom got to go HOME.
My husband is a good father.  He is not perfect but he's doing the best he can at the moment.  He loves my oldest daughter as his own. He works hard to take care of our family.  I appreciate him.
I miss my dad.
Today I am grateful that I knew my dad and my grandpa.  My mom's dad is still alive and I'm glad I know him, too.  They all work hard.  They all care for their families.  They are not perfect but they are/were good men who have taught me different lessons.
I am grateful for my Heavenly Father.  He knows me better than I know myself.  He loves me better than I love myself.  I have faith that through His son Jesus Christ I can be made whole -- even though I do not know when or how this will be possible.  My biggest fear is that there is no "fixing" me, that I am doomed to this depression for the rest of my life with no relief.  I struggle between the truths I've been taught that Jesus can and will heal me, and the despair that there is no way to do it.  I say I have faith, perhaps I do not?
Need to find a bite to eat.  Sleepiness is hitting me like a huge wave.
