false beliefs
One of the hardest things to deal with for people with dysthymia is trying to get support. When you are depressed, I mean the real clinical kind, people can sometimes tell by talking to you, or even like my lovely but celibate wife, she can tell by looking. I suppose my damped behavior was also a key. But if you spend enough time with that person, you can tell, if you pay attention. But when you have dysthymia, it's snot so obvious. You try to reach out, in those moments you can muster the motivation to do so, and those who know you best, well, they say "aw, cheer up!" or "Smile!" I used to hear that a lot. I wanted to punch the person in the head and yell at them, "I can't! Okay? I just can't!" Or they fail to believe that there is anything wrong, that it will pass soon, so it's okay to ignore it. And you know how these things affect you. It demotivates you more, thinking why-the-hell-try. Yep, the old spiral of doom. You lose hope. How unfair, once a year passses, or two, and your world slowly slips away. You have simply just let go of it. It's too much effort. And your significant other has declared that you are 'useless". the really strange part is that you know you are not useless, that it makes no sense, because you are smart, witty, and capable. You have accomplished things in your life. But that was years ago, and the evidence held against you is right as rain. You cannot refute it. So you must be useless. How can that be? It ain't true at all. You know this. But quite honestly you allowed it to come to this. You never properly fought it. You lose hope, and that spiral of despair rears itself. this is why that search for adequate help is so important. To find someone who believes. It's hard to find that help, especially when you are not motivated. thanks for reading. Today I declare that i ma no longer own the fear of teenagers and old people. My history shows that teenagers are unpredictable and can inflict pain or misery at an impulse. they are unpredictable. Old people, well I used to hold the thought that they are bitter and want revenge on the young and healthy. that we are ungrateful. But I realize that these things are not really true. these are false beliefs that I had held on to for a long time. In fact, this fear has been gopne for a while but I still held on to the beliefs. I urge those with low self-esteem to find one false belief that they hold and dismiss it
