Faith (by whatever name)
Should I believe in the projects I sorta kinda have going here on the job site? I have already been here for five months in this go-round. The last go-round was five months. The initial survey was a month. It is the first time I have ever revisited any of my job sites. As with all of my job sites, I have remained professionally detached. Not my circus. Not my monkey. I am only here to get a job done, however poorly defined the job. I am an Army veteran. "Hurry up and wait" is part of my basic training. The fact that the controlling investors of this job site happen to be family is mostly irrelevant to my logic. The greatest diff is that I need to be a bit more compassionate in the names I call the controlling investors. Hubs doesn't like it when I call him any of the colorful dirivatives of "Muckety muck."
Will Hubs's new "remodiot" job change anything? Among the possibilities on the discussion table is developing new potentials for this family investment property. For the half a century this property has been in Hubs's family, it has been nothing more than an investment portfolio line item. The old man's business. Personal interest guaranteed to trigger yet another lecture on the evils of mixing family and business. For Hubs's brother, it remains such. I know very little about my BIL beyond his favorite sports teams and latest 5-star tours, but I do know his life is in the Gulf Coast Region. This property sits on the Southern tip of the North American Great Plains. Despite the shared State boundry, the two regions are radically different and physically distant from one another. The co-owner/fraternal dialog remains obscure, but Hubs seems to feel much more comfortable with the dialog than he did when his father died in October 2016. I remain deliberately detached from the dialog. The in-laws remain familiar strangers to me and my sole involvement in the family is supporting my spouse when he needs to go there. I am fully terrified of revealing myself in their company.
The fragmented year I have spent on this job site has been sprinkled with proprietarial surges. One of my strictly personal ponderances is if it is time to stop squealching those proprietarial surges. Should I start calling this place, "Home?" My deepest conditioning has Faith that that will bring on the Caddy parade, complete with eviction papers. Plenty of proof available in my strictly personal herstory. There is more recent evidence that it is okay to do so here. Dare I have faith in the more recent evidence. Proof unavailable.
Sorting. . .

That’s a lot of sorting, Arfie. Sending support and some extra folders & boxes to use in that process.
How many times have I heard my husband say “Hurry up and wait,”? Definitely a military thing but it served him well with being married & having 3 women in a house.
“Home” will I think remain my “unicorn” I’m still waiting to find. I love my new house, it’s feeling like a home but in a way the culture, people don’t seem right. I still feel like my home lays next to my beautiful river. I’ll probably never quite think of anywhere as truly home again until I’m back there.
Wishing you luck, and hoping that you can put faith in calling where you decide to “home” and it truly becomes that.
Hugs!
I'm not sure I learned a more valuable skill in the Army than, "Hurry up and wait." It seems to show up everywhere, from waiting in lines to misscheduled appointments to waiting for the kid's school event to begin.
In my own wanderer circles, we call "Home" a "Townie" concept. Every culture in human history has produced both nomads and townies. Don't let the costumes fool ya. A townie is a townie, whatever their culture. I'm not sure I'll ever get it, either, but I'm trying. 38 years with a fifth generation Texan has offered me some clues, but only clues.
Hi arfie. Triple hugs of support as you make your way with these decisions. From my own personal experience, having been my wife’s spouse for 21 years even though the laws didnt allow legal same sex marriage until seventeen plus years into our relationship, id suspect that the answer you find may be to the questions not asked instead, as it so possible to “home” without having taken any steps to settle into place
