Failure to Launch

"Failure to Launch" became my memory exercise for the day after SO sent me an insomnia text using that very phrase. She is also an emotional orphan. The movie version of "Failure to Launch" has never been an available option in her life, any more than it was ever an available option in my own life.

The movie date was an easy surf. 2006. I still haven't seen the movie. The movie never even hit my radar until after I started noticing 30somethings looking hurt when I used the phrase. I gleaned the new meaning by scanning the press reviews.

I first learned the term, "Failure to Launch" in U.S. Army Boot Camp in August of 1973. I think. I used the term throughout my entire engineering and construction career. I used the term freely in many different settings. There are quite allot of places the phrase fits. Prior to 2k smomething, I have no memory of anybody looking at me weird when I used it. Confirmation of those facts proved to be a greater challenge than finding the movie date. The traditional use was not my greatest research challenge to date, though. I added "engineering" to the movie title. For now, I am working to sit gently with the research for the strictly personal memories. My compulsion urges are roaring. Plying therapy tools. . .

I responded to SO's insomnia text with a reference to the failure to launch at the Surname Inheritance Property. Yes, she was involved in that drama with even less political power than I. She has no family she can call for her grocery budget. My beaten crazy bitch wolf maternal instincts are roaring over the injustice, despite the absence of legal blessing and the dispersment of fair wages. Whacha gonna do without offending the two men of the house?

After my memory exercise, I sent another text telling her of the fact that "Failure to Launch" is a traditional engineering term I have used freely since 1973. Still haven't seen the movie. She already knows I don't much like chick flicks.
