Extension of 'Pretend not to care but really sad'

I posted this a few days ago:
For years, my oldest cat and I have had this love/hate relationship (frankly most of her life) which comes from my discovery of being allergic to cats 6 months after having adopting her. I have always held onto her, even though obviously have not been able to have much physical contact. She is about 15 1/2 years old, and it looks like she won't last more than a day or two.  I am trying to prepare the kids for it, talking about logistics about after, but her occasional seemingly inconsolable yowling and odd behaviour are getting to me. I can see where people have the temptation for euthanasia, but I want to see her to come to peace naturally, and wouldn't want to give her that stress (she dislikes the doctor more than me!)
She passed on Wednesday night/Thursday morning. It has been really hard, everywhere I turned, she used to be under my feet, driving me crazy, waking us up at the crack of dawn to eat.  .  . I keep on subconsciously looking for her.
This of course comes a couple of weeks after my mother-in-law died, while my husband was back in England putting her to rest. I was left with the kids, to reassure her, try to give her water when she needed it, consoling when she called for it.
I guess the positive side is that I found the strength to take of the boys for the week without my husband around, preparing the meals and getting back of forth to work.
(I hope this one doesn't get deleted by DS. Alma was the only person who saw the original I wrote on Thursday.)

Hi
Lol, DS was doing maintenance. I hope your husband is back and everyone is well. Congrats in doing so well during the week.

I know how we look for them and how we miss their worst behavior.
I had a very annoying pomeranian that didn\'t miss me a step. Its been around three years and sometimes I miss her terribly. My daughters have both houses full of pets and it doesn\'t change a thing.
Be well

I can feel the pain in your writing when you talk about your cat. How are the chilcren handling the loss? Children are more resilient than adults so hopefully they have bounced back after the initial shock. Even though your cat was 15+ years old, it still doesn\'t prepare you for their passing. I\'m glad you had so many years with your baby. I\'m also so sorry about your loss. Hopefully your memories will be bright to help you through this tough time. I\'m also glad to hear that you were able to carry on during your husband\'s absence so well. It\'s amazing how we are able to do what we must when we must.
