Exercise!

There is no mystery to weight loss -- and no virtue in my activities.
I am simply trying to avert the awful long term outcome of untreated type 2 diabetes -- blindness, kidney failure, amputation, heart attack, stroke, etc.
The doctor said, "Lose Weight!"
And I listened.
Not because I wanted to lose weight -- not really, but because I am deeply frightened of the potential risks of not losing weight.
Fear is a great motivator!
But fear will only do so much.  I found that I had to apply the principles I have learned in AA.  I need to surrender my life and will to the care of a good physician.  I need to follow directions with all the earnestness with which the drowning cling to a life preserver.  I found that I needed to forget about an end result and simply do what I can in this moment, this meal, this doctor visit, this medication, this walk; today!  What is right in front of me that I am able to do?  I can't decide to be fit and healthy.  I will never not be a diabetic.  I am not capable of fixing this illness. But I can do my best to follow directions.
When I falter -- as I do and surely will, I need to simply get back on the doctor's plan without judgment.
These were the lessons I was taught in AA, and I am grateful to have them available when facing this deadly disease of diabetes.
I am VERY grateful for the support I've received here!
