Eternity and infinity

Let's call it a short story.
Everything stops. I open my eyes to find myself sitting on a white cliff-top. Straight ahead, right above the sun I see a bright red star, right smack dab in a dense section of the Milky Way. So bright the glaring dawn doesn't affect its visibility at all. Stars are supposed to twinkle...this one doesn't...it's like Venus sitting on the horizon at sundown. Brighter than that. Kind of...pretty. Come to think of it, none of the stars twinkle. Usually they disappear when the sun comes up. They're getting brighter and converging in the center of my vision. Everything else is dimming except the light. It's so beautiful, never seen anything like it. It's so powerful the view doesn't flicker when my eyes blink, nor does it blur when I let them lose focus.
I can't stop staring at that red star in the center. A tiny point as bright as the sun. For a split second I swear I was much closer. The glowing sea below is silver, and very calm. I take a few moments to gaze at it before turning my gaze upwards to the sky again. It's so beautiful...but why is it so familiar? Why do I feel as if I know this place?
My eyes fall upon that bright orange-red star, and my memory clicks. Eternity...
Hearts in full bloom never wither. Not even the stubborn ones.

I step towards the edge of the cliff and look down towards the water below. Right now, I'm not afraid. I don't even remember what fear feels like. And pain...what is pain again? I remember I was once told that every life is like a burning candle. Once the flame goes out, there will never be another quite like it again. Even if the candle is re-lit later, the wick is changed and therefore the flame will be slightly diffrent. I realize now that my journey will never be finished until I take this final leap. One last thrill for good measure, to remind the universe of who I am.

Opening my arms, I laugh at the word called fear, bend my knees and leap as hard as I can off the edge. I can hear my own laughter echoing. I'm falling in slow motion, fast-forward and real time simultaneously. Below me, the water beckons with each second as it comes closer.

With a splash, the water surrounds me and feels so warm and peaceful. I just let myself sink like a rock and continue laughing silently at the pleasure I'm experiencing as the warmth caresses my skin. Bubbles are rising all around me, coming from my skin. Each bubble has an image from my lifetime flashing through it, and the painful ones just pop and fade from my memory. I can feel myself becoming part of the bubbles, rising with them. I can see, hear, feel, smell and taste everything as I sink and rise at the same time.

Now I'm rising more than I'm sinking, and I know I'm being spiraled up towards the red star I'd seen whike standing at the top of the cliff. Or was it? I don't know anymore...time has no meaning.

Just a split second before the last part of me starts to rise towards this red star, I wonder what will remain once my heart stops beating? Will I know it when I'm dying? Will I see that light people talk about when they come back from the jaws of death? Will I still exist? Will I know I've died afterwards? Will someone be there to hold my hand until I slip away? How will I be remembered? Will people still speak my name years after I've departed? Who will tell the next generation about me when they are old enough to understand?

Don't know...guess I never will. If my memories stay with me after I die...I know what I'll remember.

Other things I'll carry with me are the sounds of the rain and the wind in the trees. I'll remember the sky on a clear night with the stars all shimmering. I've alway's loved staring up at the star's. I'll remember the calming, thunderous sound's of waterfall's and I'll remember the feeling of a kitten's paw touching my cheek. I'll even remember the flavorless taste of the water.
I'll remember love, that warm, powerful and unrivaled emotion that can survive even the harshest blows. But my memories may still fade, and I have to face that. But there is one thing I'm sure of: Even if I cease to exist and everything that was "me" disappears, my dream will still be there. I still have a future with a long journey ahead.
So, yeah, I may die. I may cease to exist. My memories might disappear. I could fizzle out, never to be again. Yesterday is already gone and I may not have a tomorrow. But I still have today.

And if today is last day I'll ever see, then I'd better make the most of it.

I'm ready to meet my destiny. And I ascend, becoming part of the universe, and eternity, with love in my heart. There is no end when there is love. I know this because I can see the face's of everything and everyone I love in the bright red star above me.
At last, my long journey is finally over, and all I feel is peace.
This isn't death.

This is life.
