ER, ET and other stuff
I was off the radar there for a while – we went to Bloemfontein (my hometown and where Dr. Good is) and stayed with my parents on the farm and the Internet signal was just too poor there. I missed my friends in the computer! I have to say, I felt kind of lost and on my own, no one to complain to!
ER
They did the ER last week Monday and got 8 ‘good looking’ eggs. I was a bit sore afterwards and had some serious cramping that evening but felt a lot better the next day. Five of the eight fertilised and by Wednesday morning they were still all there and two started forming cells already.
ET
We did the ET on Wednesday afternoon. Went in expecting it to be quick…like the previous time. As some of you (who went through my first IVF cycle with me) can remember, my previous ET (with Dr. Evil) was vaginally and there was some kind of hiccup and one (of the two) embryos got stuck in the in pipe (or whatever you call it) and they had to do it again. So I was hoping that this time around things will go much smoother.
I had to be booked into the day clinic, which I thought was strange, but oh well. And then the sister told me that they do the ER through a laparoscopy – she thought I knew because we have already done it before. To be fair, when they tried to explain the whole IVF procedure I was kind of ‘all-knowing’ because ‘been there, done that’ and I didn’t want to waste time so I told them to skip that part. So I was surprise, but also very happy that they do it like that.
They transferred four (two two-cells and two four-cells, although my husband says it was two four-cells and two six-cells – I could be wrong because they told me as they were putting my under anaesthetics). I was really in a lot of pain Wednesday night because they couldn’t give me any strong painkillers afterwards – for obvious reasons. But Thursday morning I already felt a lot better.
OTHER STUFF
So we came back yesterday – have to say, didn’t enjoy the four hour drive that much, but it was good to be home after more than a week. I had to go back to school today and that sucked! I would have liked to stay in bed and just be as relaxed and still as possible until Monday when we do the blood test.
MORE OTHER STUFF - WEDDINGS AND SISTERS GETTING PREGNANT
It is my sister’s wedding on Saturday, so we’re doing the four hour drive again Friday (fatty me has the honour of being the bridesmaid and I do not look forward to putting on that dress!). Now listen to this… this is how crazy I have become… She is only getting married on Saturday, and I am already obsessing and worrying about her falling pregnant before I do! She is six years younger than me and she has told me that they don’t want to wait before starting because, and these were her exact words: “what if we also have to struggle like you do?!” I pray to God that they won’t struggle like we do, but I don’t know how I will be able to handle that. So let’s hope and pray that I hear that I am pregnant two days after her wedding!
WHAT TO DO?
We are kind of in two minds about staying until the Monday to do the blood test there – we have done everything else there. I just don’t want to wait for the results like the previous time, this time they have to call or rather text me the results. Now if I am pregnant it would be great to share it with the family in person, but if I’m not I really don’t want to face any of them. Maybe we should do the test, sit in the car and wait and if it is negative just drive back to Johannesburg straight from there. I’m taking the day off school regardless.
HOW I FEEL...
I am very scared to be hopeful this time around. I want to believe and I’m fighting to keep the negative thoughts under control. The thing is, I believed with all my heart that it will only take one IVF to get us pregnant and I was more than sure the previous time that I was pregnant and when I heard that I wasn’t I was shattered… broken… So I want to believe with all my heart again, but something is holding me back. DH was very careful the first time to be too optimistic, but now he is like I was – he is convinced that I am already pregnant and that this is it. Please God let this be it.
