She kept her head down
Not wanting to be 'on the radar'.
Now she has to keep her head up
So they'll never know.
She gets ready for school each day
Body could be better
Face is pretty---with makeup anyway
And clothes are good.
She looks in the mirror and the reflection speaks to her:

"Well what are you going to do with your hair?"

She replies, "I'm not sure..."

"Well if you weren't such an asshole, you could do a lot with it, ya know."

"It's not my fault...."

"You say that about everything! Take responsibility for once."

"But this time it's true...I can't control it..."

"Bullshit. You can do whatever you want. You act like you can, anyway."

She settles with a cowlick and a braid to the side. It hides the thinning hair the best anyway.

As she grabs her bookbag, she turns to the mirror once more and says,

"I'm trying. I really am."

The reflection turns away, just like everyone else has.
