End of Vacation

Where did the week go? For that matter, where did the year go? Time sure do fun when I am having fly and I've had to eat more than one fly pie in the shit storm season that hit mid-way through 2019. The year has been hard enough that on some levels I am glad to see it go, but how did the end of the year get here so fast?

Leaving that mystery be, the week's vacation from school felt like a solid settling to the "New Normal" for the five of us. Hubs and I are both feeling our resistance to that "New Normal." Where did our retirement plans go? Can we handle a second parenting career in place of those carefully nurtured retirement plans? What the fuck has The Gnarly Old Dickhead (G.O.D.) thrown us into this time? "They Say" God never gives you more than you can handle. Does ya have to have so much confidence in me?

Despite the nagging doubts that keep slithering out of the woodwork like termites, I believe I will still leave the mood indicator at okay. The collective optimism is still running high and the course feels steady.

The baby chickens have already out-grown their first brooding cage. Yesterday I removed the craft table the brooding cage had been setting on and set the base of the cage on the carpet of the small room to hold the food and water mess while I let the growing babies have full run of the room. The move is likely to trash the carpet in the room, but given the depth of my dislike for carpet, I don't find that much of a tragedy. Life willing, I will be able to move the chicks into the carpet-free new house this week. All that is lacking is the final hook-up from the electric company and the punch-out work from the manufacturer.

Girl howdy, I'm looking forward to having a space which can actually be baby-proofed. Space heaters, cramped spaces and over-loaded electrical outlets are far from ideal on that score. The baby is walking like a woman who is determined to get somewhere these days. No, dear, that space heater may be the hottest destination in town, but. . . I am looking forward to a decisive change in that dialogue.

Hugs, Arfie. I don’t miss the “Baby Proofing” days. I generally have to do much the same when my family comes visiting and brings their dogs. Even the best behaved dogs can do a lot of damage in a house like mine, lol.

It does seem like time is getting away from us again. Today for me especially I wondering how it’s been 43 years already. I still feel like my mind is stuck at 27, though my body has consistently argued that its in it’s 80s for the last two decades.

I have a “depth” of dislike for the carpet in our house also but after the level of work it took for my mother and I just to restore the original oak flooring underneath in just one room, I currently resisting the temptation (and also the pleading from my landlord) to go any further than the living room at this point. At some point though that carpet will need to go, lol. Maybe we can do a joint coordinated project when it comes time to pull up yours. ;)

Hugs & Love, Arfie.

The jury is still out on whether this house will be restored or carried to the landfill. Even for a house as small as this one, restoration is a BIG subject, especially when the restoration needs to start with the piers and beams under the floors. This carpet is not horrifically old, but it is cheap enough that it doesn't seem worth heroic efforts to extend its life. Especially when you hate carpet as much as I do. Achoo. . .

I didn't miss my baby proofing days, either. Life is what happens when you are busy making plans? ! ! ! ! ! NFF ! ! ! ! ! !

Dont know how you have been doing it all Arfie, not that God gave you much of a choice in the matter. It sounds smile enducing when you write about the baby chickens. Triple hugs of continued support and prayers

The chicks seem to be taking well to the new set up. They are, indeed, adding lots of gentle smiles to the vacation mix. So far, knocking wood, they are looking like the healthiest brood I have nurtured to date. So far. . . Knocking wood again.

The turkey trials ended tragically. Of the 20 poults, there is only one jake(?) left and I am worried about him since his last broodmate disappeared earlier this week. I have no clue to her fate but Mister Tom sure seems depressed about being alone and? ? ? I moved him into the brood room with the baby chicks. He is still not eating or drinking, but he seems touched by the little bundles of energy bouncing across his feet. It is hard to believe he was as small and cute as the chicks less than four months ago.
