Emotional Stability

Having picked a very vague goal 'emotional stability', and one that is obviously very subjective, I'm thinking I'd just like a sense of well being.
How do I assess this? Well I'd like to vanquish the addictive feelings that sometimes haunt me when my ex narcissist contacts me. But I also need to give myself a huge pat on the back for not contacting him, and not responding often.  The addiction feels really similar to giving up ciggarrettes, which is kind of reinforcing, because I've never felt that way in a relationship before, I usually feel sad, grieve in a way that doesn't feel quite so shallow and sharp.
What becomes obvious is, that the things I use to keep strong, ie. the list of dreadful things he did to me, said to me, and situations he put me in, are in fact the things I'm traumatised about. They are the things I'm in shock about, how I could allow anyone to do that to me, so in fact, I'm grieving the part of me that would NEVER be in that situation, and that's great! because I don't need to actually grieve it, I need to nurture it back into my life, and the good thing is it has absolutely NOTHING  to do with my ex, no, I definitely won't find it there.
I'm not sure how this goal gets rated as moving forward, I think I've been slightly lazy or technophobic in researching how it works.  It's a strange thing to measure online anyway.
Cheers.
