Embarrassment
The whole bedwetting situation has calmed down in our house until last night.
Yesterday morning my three year old daughter (who is dry during the day and night) went into my sons room to wake him up in the morning. I guess my daughter noticed that my son was wearing a pull-up and asked a few questions but my son ignored them and got in the shower. When she asked me about it I just said he wears them at night and changed the subject quickly, not wanting to make a big deal about it.
Last night a few neighbors were over and I told Jane it was time to get ready for bed. She then asked loudly if she could wear a pull-up to bed like Tyler does. My neighbors, my son and three of his buddies were all in the room when my daughter asked this. My husband just told my daughter that she was being silly and then took her right upstairs before she could say anymore.
My husband told me he had a talk with my daughter that some things we do not discuss to people who not in our family and Tyler wearing pull-ups is one of those things. She asked why he wears them and some other related questions. My husband explained that even though he can't help wetting his bed, Tyler is very embarrassed and does not want other people to know. He told her not to talk about it again.
My husband handled the situation well and I do not think anyone thought much of her comment except of course my son who was trying to hide his humiliation. He truthfully looked like he was about to burst into tears.
Obviously my daughter did not mean to embarrass her brother but she just wants to do everything he does. It was a very tough situation. I just told Tyler that we had a talk to Jane about not discussing his personal issues to anyone and left it at that.
This morning Jane grilled Ty with questions when he woke up and he just told her to leave him alone. I had to remind Jane of what we said about talking about this and she stopped. I was such a tough situation and I just hope it doesn't have a lasting impact on his self-esteem
