Approximately 16 species of common coqui, members of the diverse neotropical frog genus Eleutherodactylus, are known in Puerto Rico. Of these 16, 13 have been found in El Yunque National Forest. This small frog earned its Puerto Rican common name due to the call of the most common coquí species in Puerto Rico, Eleutherodactylus coqui, which begins as the sun sets and ends in early dawn. This has made it an animal of great endearment to Puerto Ricans and in contemporary times the coqui has become a symbol of Puerto Ricans. Other animals found within the forest boundaries are the Puerto Rican oriole , the peregrine falcon , red fruit bat , the Puerto Rican giant anole and the Puerto Rican twig anole .
On the right-hand side, you’ll see a muddy bank speckled with trees. As of July, 2019 some parts of the rainforest have reopened to travelers. El Portal Rain Forest Center still closed and no camping is available. Repairs are underway and it is scheduled to reopen at the end of 2019.
Dotted with places like Cathedral Saint Alexandar Nevski, Boyana Church, Vitosha Boulevard; it will definitely be a good idea. I took a picture of a beautiful lizard guiding the entrance to it though. There is no possibility of paying the car fee at the spot . The tickets can be bought at the official government site.
